Safes: How to Choose the Right One for Your Home or Business

There are a variety of different safes on the market to suit the different needs and budgets of home or business owners.

Different types and makes of safes have different security ratings. These security ratings vary with the security level or fire protection level of the safe. Consider your needs when purchasing a safe: if you need a safe to protect valuable documents against high temperatures caused by fire, you’ll need a safe with at least a “C” class safety level.

Safes also come with a variety of different locking mechanisms. This may be a consideration for you if you are concerned about the safety of a key and lock safe, and would prefer a safe with a more sophisticated type of access. In this case, consider purchasing an electronic safe, or a biometric safe, which respond to a code and your fingerprints respectively. Some safes can also be opened and closed remotely.

Last, it’s also possible to purchase “decoy” or “diversion” safes. These are safes that are shaped to look like household objects such as clocks or cans of shaving cream, and are designed to hold small valuables such as jewellery. Dividing these items between several different diversion safes can help contribute to their safety in the event of a burglary.
