Security in Afghanistan- A Hardly Achievable Thing

Lack of security is the biggest threat that the population of Afghanistan is facing today and the main reason behind this is that the political system seems to be dysfunctional.  The people of Afghanistan have been facing terror, violence and torture from more than twenty years and now it seems that killing, expulsions, looting, rape and lawlessness are not sufficient to describe the position of law and order here. The foreign powers also seem to have used this for their benefit as they provided their direct or indirect support to the groups that had the intentions of shattering the country’s mines, pastures, irrigation systems and education system.

Schools have been blasted, roads have been cratered and the people of Afghanistan have been the victims or the subjects of torture in all this. More of only shock comes out when one looks at the statistics that suggest that the level of literacy, health and that to an access to proper nutrition is reaching to the zilch levels.  The World Development Report that is published by the UN Development Program no longer contains name of Afghanistan as there are no institutions in the country that could compile the statistics that could be included in it.

Challenge of information makes position of security worst

One more problem that is adding to the problem of security in Afghanistan is that it has no institutions that could compile the information about the country as a whole so that it becomes easy to govern it. In the past 2 decades, all or some parts of Afghanistan have been rule by atrocious powers that were not there to govern, but to spread their message on a broader arena.  All the credit of this pathetic condition of the security system of the country goes to the lack of governance that it has been subjected to in the past years. The insecurity that the people have faced in the past gave birth to violence and crime.

No authority of governing body in Afghanistan has ever paid heed to arms trafficking and this is why there are many that have made it as a source of livelihood.  Coming to the cultivation, if one talks of nutrition, opium and poppy seeds are grown here and this is now one of the most common survival strategies that are being followed. There was time when Afghanistan was very much self suffice in regard to food production, but now what it produces is two third times less than what is required.

If all the reasons of this pathetic condition of the security system in Afghanistan are clubbed together then the prominent ones would be no border control, no economic activity, no normality in the relations with the neighbors and a trade policy that contains disparities only.  All this is not being said in context to terrorism prevailing here; even if that is kept out no one can see that the chances of country flourishing in the prospect are negligible.
