Security in Haiti – Orphanages Suffering Badly

The destructive earthquake in Haiti is considered to be the biggest in over past 200 years. The two aftershocks of the quake were also very devastating which have really compelled the people to face an incredibly critical situation. Security is a factor that is suffering badly and making the survivors suffer, as well. The country is constantly being supplied with food and water so as to support the basic humanitarian needs of the survivors, but still there are some people that have yet not received any delivery and have been starving from over 50 hours or so.

Western nations and United States is making great efforts to supply food, water and medical aid for the people on time, but the running shortage have compelled various armed men to take the support of violence and fulfill their hunger. Recently, news have been flashed mentioning that a food convoy was blocked on the road by a group of armed men, but was dispersed immediately by the policemen using gunfire. The convoy was carrying the food and water for orphanages and was delayed due to this incident. In addition to this, some news sources also mentioned that a group of armed men have attacked various orphanages supporting children in order to hijack food and other supplies.

Several orphanages have declared that children are dying due to starvation and so some strong measures have to be taken in order to stop people from attacking the supplies being provided to them. Keeping this aspect in mind, Haitian government and relief agencies have decided to provide food and water supplies that will be sufficient for one or two days only, so that the chances of looting can be lowered. This has helped a few orphanages only, but some of them are still suffering from the same difficulty and have continued reporting recent deaths due to starvation.
