Haiti Faces Challenge in Security

The horrible 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti in January, 2010 was a big disaster. The country was already facing various challenges like political violence and gang warfare. Now the natural calamity has created more complicated circumstances. Most part of port Au Prince has faces a severe damage and people of Haiti are suffering badly. In the entire Western Hemisphere, Haiti was the poorest nation and the situation of earthquake has raised many other complexities for the people. The biggest predicament is that this natural disaster has challenged the security in Haiti and to help people come up this circumstance, various Western Nations including Canada and United States are providing appropriate support.

In the month of January, food, water and other medical supplies were delayed due to the reason of slow unloading process and storage problems, but in February, the process of providing supplies was speeded up. Some Western Nations, United States and Canada have been constantly providing support to the people in order to help them survive. Just after the quake shook the country, several people died and some people that survived were suffering from the shortage of food and water. The current situation in the country has been under control to a great extent, but people are still facing various problems with the same.

One of the dilemmas which people are to face as aftereffects is that gang warfare was controlled to a great extent and efforts were being made to reduce this. However, when major constructions in Port Au Prince collapsed, the largest prison in the downtown was also a part of these constructions. Numerous inmates have escaped from this prison and this can again give fire to the criminal activities. Apart from this aspect, international aid is constantly being provided to the people so that their basic humanitarian needs can be fulfilled aptly.
