Dilapidated Security Conditions Complicating the Rescue Work

The devastating earthquake that hit Haiti almost two months back has opened doors for many other problems. People have been left homeless, there is no electricity and are finding it tough to get them treated. Although the aid providing organizations are working here to see that there are no causalities and every one gets food and water, the after affects of this earthquake are making things tough. As the largest prison of the country has collapsed, one thing is for sure, the general public is not safe. There have been many looting cases occurring in the relief camps and also on the food packages that the aiders were carrying.

What adds more of tension to this whole situation is that now the women and kids are being targeted. There has been a significant rise in the number of rape cases and many gang rape cases have also been reported. Many cases have come into light where the orphan or homeless children were being subjected to trafficking and this was supported by the aid providers.

If one accesses the condition of overall security in the country, then it could be said that the stress should be to protect women and children from any kind of anguish.  It has to be seen that the arrangement of proper shelters is made and there is continuous patrolling there as then only these rapists would be nabbed.

Efforts need to be made so that the people living in these temporary shelters find themselves safe and the men can leave their families there and go to earn.  It is better that both the government of Haiti and the relief providing organizations keep a close eye on the developments as with this they would at least know where improvements are required.
