Madness of violence in Iraq

Since the US led invasion of Iraq way back in 2003, the country has been in the state of turmoil. In most of the towns and streets of the country, some or the other form of the violence is almost visible. More than the attacks on the US and the NATO troops the violence between the Shi’a and Sunni of the country are the most violent one. Recent poll conducted by the Americans in 2006 finds out that 65% to 85% of the Iraqis believed Iraq is in a civil war situation. However more recent similar poll conducted by the Iraqis in 2007 show only 39% of population which believes in the idea of civil war.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner Office for Refugees and the local Iraqi government, by October 2006, more than 365000 nationals of Iraq were displaced since 2006 bombing which was at the mosque al-Askari. Government estimates the total number of civil war refugees to be of around 1.6 million by then. The number of refugees rose to about 4.7 millions is roughly 16% of the population of the country and with still other 2 million inhabitants being displaced from the country.
This unrest between the two major groups of the country, has led to a series of violent incidents in the country claiming thousands of innocent lives. According to the Failed State Index, created by Foreign Policy magazine and the Fund for Peace, Iraq topped almost every year as one of the most unstable country since 2005. There is always the possibility of outbreak of a more serious civil war between the two warring faction of the Muslim. In such a situation the efforts of the US to bring in a more moderate and democratic government in the country seems impossible due to critical situation.
With more and more of car bombings and suicide bombing attacks taking place, besides opening firing on both the masses and the government officials, immediate peace solution is not possible. 58% of experts believed that the sectarian division conflict will only be on the rise in the next few years. Efforts of the Iraqi security help in checking the conflict to a much larger extent in 2009.
Foreign terrorists and non Iraqi elements also triggered the rise in the conflict. This terrorist element brought in the concept of ‘Jihad or the Holy War’, among this sensitive and easily provoked society. Some experts suspect the aim of this violence is to create unrest in the country, which is under the observation of US as of now. Direct attacks on the civilian’s have increased since the occupation of Iraq by the US forces in 2003.
Moderates in order to check the never ending conflict of violence prefers to call the repeated onslaughts as “civil conflict”. Immediate solutions on the serious issue of violence in Iraq are needed to check the violence that is seriously paralyzing the country. Whole world and world’s main peace organizations should come forward to help out Iraq in this hour of crisis.
