A report by UNESCO said that there is a steep rise in the attacks against student, teachers and schools in last few years. The motive behind these attacks is political and ideological in nature. In the year 2007 it was seen that education is really under attack. In countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Thailand and India these cases have been seen on a wider level than anywhere else where the students and teachers are targeted.
From the year 2007 to 2008 the number of such attacks has been approximately tripled in Afghanistan, whereas in India, from the year 2006 to 2009, 300 schools were reported blown up by the rebels. It has been seen in conflict affected countries, that there is another major problem of violence present and that is “Sexual Violence”.
In countries like Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, Haiti, Myanmar, Philippines, and Iraq there has been regular attacks witnessed by women and school going girls, during the school or while going to the school. In Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Colombia the teacher’s union were also singled out for the attacks, murder, false custody and suffering.
As per the latest publication, when a country has a poor record on democracy and human rights it gets into the zone of conflict-affected area and in such countries these kinds of attacks take place. At some places the motive behind the attacks on school going girls have been seen as “Prevention of education for girls”.
In countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan this reason of avoiding education for girl has been seen clearly. Taliban after coming into the power completely stopped the education for girls in the region. Schools and teachers were under great terror, and life was considered more important than getting educated at those times in such countries.
