Accidents are a part of everyday life and can happen at any time. Slip, falls, fire, burns, suffocation, poisoning and other minor accidents at home can sometimes be fatal. Out of the ones enumerated, falls is the main culprit of the home accidents resulting in 55% of the total accidental injuries. According to a report, there are approximately 4000 deaths every year which are caused due to accidents at home. The house with children under the age of 5 and old aged people over the age of 65 are more prone to accidents. It is therefore imperative to install home safety systems at home which can keep a watch.
Kitchens are the most sensitive areas in terms of the accidents. Sharp kitchen utensils, poisonous drinks, and gas stove mainly results in cuts, burns and other serious injuries. These objects should be kept out of the reach of the children. Ignorance or carelessness also results into accidents. Generally people forget to turn off the knob of gas cylinder at night or while going out. They are well aware of the safety measures and guidelines of using gas cylinder, but still neglect them or are too casual about them. This can result in a gas cylinder exploding and may cause serious injury or even death. In order to minimise the injuries resulting from gas cylinder leakage or explosion, complete assessments of the storage, handling and general use of gas cylinders has to be taken. Vigilance is the price of safety.
Sharp edged furniture is another chief cause of the accidents as it imposes a high risk especially for small kids wandering and running around in the home. In their excitement they fail to observe the sharp cuts of the furniture and this result into cuts and bruises. It is therefore advised to have furniture with smooth and round finishing. One can still have the control on the furniture design but having a control on the naughty kids is not at all possible.
Bathroom is another place which results in accidents. Slip and falls on the wet surface, drowning in the tub, burns due to hot water or accidental poisoning with chemicals are very common. It is therefore essential to take some safety measures to keep the bathroom safe. Grab bars in the tub and showers, non slip mat in the tub, non skid bath mat on the floor and nightlights can help prevent many accidents.
Thus it is highly always recommended to be on the safer side and enjoy the benefits of a safe home for a safe living.
