Never ending terror: Lashkar-e-Taiba

The Lashkar-e-Taiba is a terror outfit responsible for the murder of many innocent Indian citizens. Lashkar-e-Taiba literally means the “Army of the Good” or the “Army of the Righteous” has been involved in numerous terror attacks over India. It is the organisation that was rightly accused of the Mumbai attacks which took away the life of many innocents and let their families suffer.

Fearing an intense crackdown in Pakistan after persistent Indian pressure the LeT announced that they will give up violence and pursue their goals in Kashmir peacefully. Now reports have surfaced indicating that the announcement was just an eye wash. The LeT and their masters in Pakistan are putting in all their efforts to carry out high impact strikes in India. Under their radar are high profile government institutions, important monuments and industrial establishments.

India faces threat from regular incursion attempts in Kashmir, now there is more to worry about. LeT and many other terror outfits from Pakistan are making strongholds in Muslim Maldives. Indian security agencies have evidence that the Jihadi groups are spreading their influence in Maldives. There is an unexplained rise in number of visitors from Maldives to Pakistan and vice versa. India has already been worried over increasing influence of the terrorists in Bangladesh, another of India’s neighbours. Maldives Islands are strategically placed, sparsely populated, close proximity to both India and Pakistan. Terrorist groups have had their eyes on the Maldives for some time now, and now it seems that they are moving in.

The government is now worried that the terror outfits might start recruiting from the Maldives. One of the terrorist caught after the Mumbai attack is from Maldives and has admitted to carrying out the survey in Bangalore. Bangalore’s Indian Institute of Sciences seemed to have been the prime target of that foiled terror plot.

The terrorist’s ploy of using locations other than Pakistan to chalk out their strategy and plan their attacks can be only bad for India. Already terrorist’s anti India activities from Bangladesh have troubled India a great deal. The Indian government says that it is alive to these threats, is coming up with an operational strategy to neutralize such threats. India must also seek the cooperation of the Maldives security agencies. To this regard the Indian authorities have said that they are working closely with their counterparts in Maldives, and have made some breakthroughs already.
