When leaving your kids alone at home

In today’s busy world, parents have to face undesirable situations where they have to leave their kids at home alone, while they finish off their busy work. It is natural for them to be anxious about the situation, as kids could easily fall prey to accidents when left on their own.

There are several ways in which a kid can hurt himself or herself, and it would not be possible to take any action immediately as they are too immature to react to emergency situations. Generally, the biggest risk factor is with children below ten years of age as their maturity levels are really low. Some of the basic risk factors along with safety tips are discussed below.

  1. The first risk that a kid faces is that they are completely without defense if a burglar or thief breaks in during their lonely stay. The risk is enormous, as it could result in death in the extreme case.

SAFETY TIP: It is advised to inform neighbours about the situation, and request them to keep an eye regularly, if not being able to take care of the kid at that time.

  1. There are many tools and products in the house that are generally very harmful for kids. The electrical products and tools with sharp edges are most likely to be dangerous for them and can cause mild to serious injuries.

SAFETY TIP: One should ensure that no electrical product or sharp tools like knife, scissor should be near the vicinity of the kid’s reach.

  1. When more than one kid is left alone at home, there is always a risk of getting injured while playing or fighting among each other.

SAFETY TIP: It is advised to keep an attendant who can monitor their behaviour time to time, and prevent any such scope of injuries.

  1. Kids who are very adventurous in nature generally trend to break free when “imprisoned” alone at home. They have a tendency to break out of the house and explore the world around.

SAFETY TIP: The best way to deal with such a situation is to engage the kid(s) in a childcare arrangement programs as it could keep them involved and busy.

Kids have a very special place in their parents’ heart. Sometimes, the harsh professional world leaves no alternative than to deal with this uncomfortable situation. It is best if someone attends the kids, but in the other case, parents should ensure all round safety for their kid(s).
