The Future of Security Cameras

Schools, homes, offices, airports, hotels, and elderly homes—what do these places have in common? They are no longer mere establishments. They have also become Big Brother “houses” after studies showed that owners have already installed different types of cameras within the vicinity.

Indeed, as crime rates and the threat of terrorism continue to increase through the years, there is a good chance that the security cameras will become more in demand. There will also be a lot of changes in the areas of use and features.

IP Cameras

The United States government, in an effort to minimize illegal aliens and to monitor suspicious people, is thinking about building a virtual fence. Unlike the usual fences you are aware of, this one is going to be composed of tall towers where IP cameras will be attached. They are called as such because each will have an assigned IP or (Internet protocol) for easy access. They can run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the entire year.

This is going to be beneficial at their end, since they no longer have to assign too many armed officers in the border. As front liners, they are the first ones who are being harmed when there is an aggressive decision to cross the borders. The cameras will then be manned in a control room, where there are several monitors or screens.

X-rays

The concept of X-rays is something that is easily understood by many. After all, who has not really seen an X-ray machine? However, the technology is no longer reserved in health care facilities and for medical diagnosis. It is already adopted in buildings such as airports.

How does it work? It is basically similar to the X-ray machine used in checking luggage. The only difference is that it is already humans who are subjected to it. Once you pass by the X-ray scan, the machine’s sensors can immediately penetrate into your clothes and check if there are concealed weapons even in your undergarments. It is so effective that it detects not only metals but also plastics and ceramics. It can also go through walls.

Streamlining Tasks

There is also the emergence of smart cameras. They just do not monitor people; they know who to watch out for. Of course, they cannot do this job unless you have set up the controls properly. Thus, the cameras can now be integrated into an application, which is the one you manipulate if you wish to create tasks for the camera.

Face Recognition

In the recent Superbowl game held in Florida, there were thousands of people who may not know that they are being watched and their faces compared in the internal database for mugs. This may sound offensive, but the latest tool actually allowed police officers to immediately determine possible criminals and fugitives in the crowd (hey, they watch football games too).

Indeed, these latest technologies aim to make surveillance cameras more effective and even cost-effective. Yet what companies should also try to consider in modifying features is the privacy. When a camera can already pass through clothes and undergarments, well, you do not have to purposely bare your soul before someone gets to see it.
