Designing Thief-proof Windows

Where is the most vulnerable part of a property? It’s not actually the door or even the garage. It’s actually the windows. There are a lot of things intruders can do to get into your property through the windows. They can simply break, unlock, or lift them. They can also remove the panes until there is enough space where they can go in.
The good thing, though, is there are a number of things that you can do to improve the security features of your windows:
Conform with the building code. The first step is to know the building code in your state and follow it. Unknown too many, the main reason for having the standards is to ensure the safety of the property owners, especially if they are inside the premises. The homes are built in a manner that they don’t easily give in to fire and earthquakes, as well as provide easy access for burglars and other criminals.
Lock the windows. Even if you have the best locks in the market, if you don’t really lock them, they will never be able to do their job, which is to prevent any intruder access. Before you go to sleep, run for errands, leave your kids, or perform tasks far from the windows, make sure that they are locked.
Secure windows higher from the ground. Windows that are found several feet off the ground, perhaps around 6 feet, should be properly secured. For one, they may not be the ones that you can instantly keep track. Moreover, they can be accessed conveniently through canopies or balconies. You can install window locks, ones that can prevent anyone from lifting the windows.
Add surveillance cameras. You can install surveillance cameras that directly point to the main windows of your home. This way, you can monitor any person that could be closing in on the window panes. This will also somehow make intruders wary because they know that they are being watched. You can also make use of covert cameras, such as those that are disguised as landscape lights or birdhouses, so the cameras would not be too obvious.
Always maintain the good condition of your windows. Perform regular check-ups on your windows, especially those that are made of wood. Without you knowing it, they may already be very weak or are easily broken particularly by blunt objects. You may want to add more glaze into your glass, so they don’t easily get shattered. Add extra mouldings. In fact, you better change them.
Hang curtains. This simple step can be one of the most effective methods to scare off burglars. Unless you want to get fresh air or more natural light inside your property, you may want to hang the curtains loose, enough to cover the entire windows. This way, burglars will never have an idea what’s going on inside.
Integrate key-operated locks for the windows. This can be one of the most secured ways for your windows, since there will only be very limited people who can open the panes. However, you should not use this procedure in bedrooms and in emergency exits.
