Is Your Home Safe?

For all of us, the home is the one place in the world where you can feel secure about yourself and your belongings. You control everything that happens in your home. In some ways, you are the god of your own abode. For this reason, all of us feel more comfortable and at ease when we have stepped through the doorstep of your own homes. But the question is this, “Is our home really safe?”

From a security standpoint, the home is actually the riskiest place to be in. Houses are the constant targets of robbers and burglars. Figures in 2005 show that majority of the burglaries committed are done against residential units rather than offices. Burglaries also happen to be one of the most common felonies to be committed by any criminal. This means that, frankly, the home isn’t actually as safe as we are all taught to think. Parents need to reassure their children of their home’s security, after all, but they are also burdened by the responsibility of keeping the house safe.

Further studies show that residents are actually too lenient with their own security. In Connecticut, a study conducted showed figures that 12 percent of the total number of burglaries succeeded because of unlocked front doors. With the alarming increase in crime rates around the world today, isn’t it high time that you ask yourself and assess whether your home is really safe or not? Moreover, you should start thinking about how you can keep your home safe!

Install  a Security System at your Home

It is a sad fact that today’s criminals have become more sophisticated and almost professional with their illegal trade. Because of that, traditional methods of security like locks and watchdogs have already proven to be ineffective at deterring these people from carrying out their felonies against your household. This calls for a more effective security solution and that is the electronic security system.

Electronic security systems come in many different forms. The most common is the surveillance camera. However, there are other forms like motion detectors, as well as intercom systems that allow you to identify if the caller on the door is someone you know or someone suspicious. Each of them are designed to increase the safeness of your household, which is a good thing since homes without security systems are three times more at risk.

Take Your Security Seriously

It is also very important that you develop a serious attitude towards security. As mentioned earlier, 12 percent of burglaries in Connecticut have been done because the front door was virtually unlocked. The same study also showed that houses were raided by burglars because they didn’t turn their security system on! Thus, it is important that you develop a serious attitude towards security because all the money spent and all those electronic security gadgets will be for nothing if you don’t take it seriously.

Aside from simply turning the security system on, you should also train your household members to adapt the same outlook towards security for their own good.
