Shopping is often an enjoyable experience, be it shopping for a special occasion or just your everyday shopping for day-to-day necessities. However, the experience may not remain as enjoyable if shoppers do not stick to certain safety norms and guidelines during shopping, and these vulnerabilities are exploited by certain unscrupulous characters. Similarly, as most shops and stores are frequented by various people from all over the region, it is also prudent to follow certain measures so as to keep yourself safe from germs and microbes that may have been borne there by other people, or even from other inanimate disease causing agents like dust.
Certain tips and measures that need to be followed while shopping are –
- While shopping, the first thing that you must be very careful about is your children. It is a common practice to leave the children in the parking lot, or sometimes inside the vehicle for the sake of convenience. Both these practices should be discouraged, as in both these cases, your children are at risk of being injured by any careless driver. And never leave the ignition keys inside the car with your child. There have been many fatal accidents under similar circumstances.
- Never allow your children to climb up in a shopping cart or to run with it while shopping. Never carry infants in shopping carts, as a small bump, or even any restless activity from the baby, to cause a serious injury due to falling down.
- Whenever you use a shopping cart, use a wet cloth to wipe off the handle of the shopping cart before you use or allow your children to use it. Most stores are not very particular about cleaning their shopping carts, and the cart handles come in contact with a lot of people. It is highly probable that any one of the previous users may leave some virulent particles or microbes, which may easily get transmitted to you or your family, if you are not careful. Similar steps should be followed while dealing with money too, because almost all money is almost always dirty!
- Never allow children to play unattended in stores. In almost every store, there are certain potentially dangerous stacks of merchandise. Clothing racks are especially dangerous, as most of the time, these racks are unstable and can topple over if disturbed.
- Last, but definitely the one of the most important threats while shopping is the presence of certain opportunistic, unscrupulous characters that prey on unsuspecting customers. These individuals may be in any disguise, and usually are adept at picking pockets without rousing suspicion. They are equally adept at blending with the crowd and remaining inconspicuous. Shoppers must be alert at all times, and should avoid carrying sensitive information such as ATM pins, or social security numbers in crowded stores.
While most stores try their best to maintain a secure environment for shopping, they cannot be omnipresent. As such, it is prudent for the shoppers themselves to be careful, vigilant and aware.
