The UN forces are basically peacekeeping forces that help to make the world a better place to live in through their constant, untiring efforts. After the two world wars, there was felt a need to ensure that wars between nations was prevented effectively as it could have negative and large scale repercussion son on countries all over the world. However, some of the countries were not equipped with enough military and task force to help bring about a stable situation. The UN forces were then brought into being by the United Nations Organization to help in maintaining normalcy in strife torn regions.
The United Nations had earlier restricted itself to talks and persuasive arguments but when these failed, it came up with the UN forces that used force and military might if necessary to ensure world peace and the betterment of all people. There was a nuclear race that began among the post world war countries that needed to be checked. UN forces help bring about nuclear disarmament and provide standards against which the degree of nuclear weapon development by countries is measured. When a country is now found to be flouting the international standards of investment in nuclear technology, the UN first tries to solve such problems by issuing warnings and notices. But, if it does not fail to achieve its purpose through these instruments, it sends in its specially trained UN forces to combat such tribulations.
In earlier times, the UN forces were only meant to solve disagreements and disputes between different nations. But, with the ever questioning mind of the new age people, it now also extends to solving problems in the internal working of a nation. When there are civil wars, UN forces rush to the requisite spot to try to dispel the situation. They even have instructions to try to take over the control of the nation in case international peacekeeping efforts are disturbed in any way.
The role of UN forces used to be completely martial in nature not so long ago. But, with the development of new problems that are highly complex and need to be solved with great innovation and dexterity, there is a need felt for a great deal of innovation in the way the UN forces work as well. It not only needs to maintain an army of combative forced but also needs to include tough, diplomatic administrators who are able and willing to solve diverse problems with their excellence, experience and skill.
There has been a significant rise in the incidence of peace treaties with the involvement of UN forces. Peacekeeping processes have been brought about and nations have been convinced to abandon their heavy handed ways in order to reach a new level of understanding of each other. Now, the role of UN forces also depends on improving diplomatic relations among warring countries in order to minimize the number of potential casualties. In situations where two or more countries do not see eye to eye with each other are resolved by the unending support and aid of UN forces.
