Road Safety Rules for Kids

Kids are restless and prone to accidents. Their carelessness added to the fact that drivers don’t often pay attention when kids are around, makes the perfect recipe for disaster. With an increasing number of incompetent drivers being handed out licenses parents need to be extra careful with their kids. That is why you need to teach your children some safety rules so when they are near a street, they are safe. What are some of those rules?
The first thing that you should do is teach them that they really shouldn’t go out on the road alone. You wouldn’t believe how many times kids have darted into the street because the ball went into it and what not. For the first few years, they should hold your hand so that you can steer them in the direction that they need to go in and so forth.
Then, even with an adult they need to know how to cross the street. First you teach them how to use their eyes. Make sure that they learn how to look both ways. However, just looking won’t do.
The next thing that you need to teach them is to listen. Sometimes, you can hear traffic more than you can see it. Therefore, you need to make sure they know to use their ears.
Crosswalks are their best friend; make them walk on the crosswalk all the time. They need to know how to use these. It is the law after all. They will have a much easier and safer way of crossing the street if they cross at the cross walk. Drivers are more aware of them and then they aren’t jaywalking.
When they go to school, you need them to understand that if there is a cross walking guard, they need to listen to their instructions. Teach them that the only reason that this guard is there to ensure that traffic comes to a complete stop so that they don’t get hit. We think they will get the hint when you explain it to them that way. It is also important to apprise them of the dangers they might face if they don’t listen to you
Another thing that you need to do is teach them not to stand too close to the sidewalk. Kids have a tendency to stray from the edge. Therefore, you need to stop this and get a handle on it before it gets them into big time trouble if a person in a car doesn’t happen to see them in time.
The last thing that you need to teach them is that you have to go about and be sure to teach them to listen to your commands. When you tell them to stop, they need to stop. The more authority you put into your voice, the more you will listen to this.
When you do this, they will know that they have to really be careful when it comes to the roads. When they get a little bit older, you can give them a little more space and trust as they will be able to look out for themselves a lot more when they get older.
