Bomb plot foiled

Three British nationals were recently accused of formulating a plan to conduct mass killings by way of suicide bombs. They are all members of a terror outfit built on the lines of Al Qaeda that were scheming to conduct a series of blasts on air planes headed for different places in the North American continent.

These men have created videos glorifying martyrdom and have sent them as warnings to the United States of America and Britain. Such groups thrive on spreading terror among civilians and are known to be making crude, liquid bombs themselves to blow up the planes.

They were convicted due to the efforts of the Britain based counter terrorism cell that carried out an extensive investigation against terror outfits. Experts believe that if this timely intervention had not been made, there would have surely been another 9/11.

The revelation of this plot has resulted in the stepping up of security measures on all major international airports all over the world. Passengers are under stringent rules and regulations when it comes to taking along anything with liquid content.

The three men who have been caught have also undergone trials in the years 2008 and 2009. The first trial did not lead to much success and they were unfortunately acquitted on the second trial. A third trial was asked for by prosecutors which consist of levying a more serious conspiracy to murder charge against the perpetrators that include Arafat Waheed Khan, Waheed Zaman and Ibrahim Savant. The accused now face a maximum punishment of life imprisonment with the sentence scheduled for Friday.
