There are some basic safety precautions that should be followed in office in order to eliminate danger and other potential hazards to all the workers. A safe office environment should be the topmost priority for each and every employee as then it eliminates the chances of any disaster and also increases their efficiency.
Office environment can vary according to the type of a particular job and depending on the risk factors associated with a particular job and depending on it some necessary precautionary steps must be taken by each and every employee. Some of the common mishaps which may result in office include fire mishaps, electrical accidents which range from fire to serious shocks and the last but not the least slipping or tripping over something.
Some of the basic safety steps that must be followed by the workers in the office to avoid these mishaps are the following
- Your workplace should always be kept neat and clean and well maintained at all costs. Important files and papers must always be stacked neatly in a corner of your table. A neat working environment will definitely increase your performance and will help you identify and tackle major as well as minor problems easily.
- Fire alarms should be installed in your office and you should always make sure that the office has necessary arrangements to tackle a fire outbreak. You should be well aware of all the exit points in the office and also remember the emergency exit points.
- Ensure that your doors and windows are well locked when you leave from office. Installing security cams in your office at different positions will help you identify the thieves in case any burglary occurs.
- Ensure that all the electrical appliances are earthed properly in order to prevent any electrical shocks. Always use wires and switches of appropriate power ratings in order to prevent short circuits. Also avoid placing any liquid items or inflammable items near an electrical appliance.
- In case you are an engineer and have to deal with machines, it’s very important that you must wear all the protective gears on in the form of helmets, protective shoes, goggles etc.
- Never hurry while completing your job because then it may result in mishaps.
- Always drink plenty of water while at office in order to prevent dehydration and keep your brain working.
- Never leave the door of your office room open while you are attending a meeting as then it may lead to loss of files and important documents for which you may be charged later.
- Medical aid should be kept at hand in case you may need it for some reason.
These are some of the basic steps that must be followed in order to maintain a safe working environment for you as well as for your colleagues. You should develop a friendly relationship with all your colleagues so that they are always ready to help you out in case any accident takes place.
