Safety Measures For Cricketers

Cricket is the world’s most popular game after football and day by day the popularity of this game is increasing. However this game is not easy as it seems to be. It’s a highly energetic game, which requires both intelligence and stamina. There are various tricks associated with this game and one can gain expertise over this game only through practice.

Level of expertise required to play Cricket:

However professional cricket is bit difficult and lots of concentration is needed for this game.  As in professional cricket the very hard duce ball is used and the pace bowlers throw the ball at very high speed towards the batsman; proper precautions should be taken for handling such situations else it may cause serious physical injury. Therefore, some special equipments or guards are required to avoid this injury. In addition, the person should be physically fit to take the stress throughout the game.

Most common types of injuries in Cricket:

Generally finger injuries are most common amongst all, which happens while mishandling of the hard duce ball at the time of fielding or bowling. While batting, lower arm and elbow injuries are common, when the fast moving duce ball hits wrong areas. Lower limb and back injury including stress fractures and twisted ankles happens mainly to pace bowlers. Bruising, fractures and sprains are the common injuries for all. Almost all major injuries happen when one gets hit by the fast moving ball, resulting in fractures and bruising.

Various Safety measure tips are required for all the cricketers to avoid such serious injuries. They are as follows:-

  1. At first the ground authority should check the ground properly, so that there is no hazardous material like broken glass pieces, plastic etc which may harm the cricketers.
  2. Before the game starts one must properly warm up and stretch his body. Normally ten minutes of jogging and stretching is enough.
  3. The Bowlers should warm up positively before their bowling spell.
  4. Over exhortation of bowlers should not be done by the team captain, especially young bowlers tend to overuse their strength, which may lead severe cramps and injuries due to dehydration.
  5. The helmet must be worn by the batsman and wicket keepers to protect their head and face form being hit by ball. The spacing in the helmet should be adjusted such that the ball cannot pass through the helmet and hit inside parts.
  6. All body guards should be worn by the batsman before batting including helmet which includes body padding, forearm pads, leg pads, abdominal protector and gloves.
  7. The fielders standing near batsman should take proper body guards including the face guard.
  8. Proper comfortable cricket shoes with spikes should be worn to avoid slipping and to get proper grip while running.
  9. Proper first aid arrangement should be made which may be required in case of injury while playing. Stretcher arrangement should also be there in case of any intense injury happens and the player can be taken outside the ground.
  10. Also during playing the players should take energy drink but in optimum quantity to prevent dehydration and also to remain energetic.
