Suicide Bomber targets Pakistani official

It has been reported by the Pakistan based authorities that two simultaneous explosions right outside a government office have resulted in a death toll of around sixty five persons. The blasts took place in the north western part of the country that lies close to the Afghanistan border. The local police have concluded from their investigations that the bomb was meant to target Rasool Khan who works for the government and was known to be holding talks with a peace committee in the Yakaghund village. Fortunately, the official escaped unscathed.

The eye witness accounts have not matched up with each other as some of them report the presence of a single suicide bomber on a motorbike while others report more than one. Around a hundred people were hurt in this untoward incident. When the attack occurred, the officials were in the process of providing wheelchairs and other useful items to those who were in need of them. Police reports have revealed that there were a number of women and children feared dead in the blast.

There were quite a few shops in the surrounding area that suffered from the bomb blast and collapsed. A nearby jail was also brought down because of the force of the explosion resulting in the escape of a number of captives. The debris is now being thoroughly examined to hopefully find buried and trapped survivors.

The tribal area of Mohmand where the attack took place is an area where the Taliban groups can be traced back to holding their operations. There is no fixed law and order prevailing in this district and a number of ambitious army operations have failed to improve the situation. A press conference quoted the head of state Mr. Gilani as saying that they would try their best to get rid of militancy rule in such areas and urged the US to place trust in them.
