Tips to remain safe on a vacation

As you gear yourself up for vacations and make plans to enjoy your summer, be it going abroad or some place in your own country, there are few things which you should take care of before heading out. Here are few suggestions that could help you a lot in providing a safe and sound trip, a trip that you can enjoy to the maximum.

Some tips that you can keep in mind before you leave:

1)      Make a thorough list of all that is required when you are planning a trip. Take all the vital items that you may require on a daily basis and requisite medicines in case anyone is on medication.

2)      Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Keep credit cards or other international cards with yourself. Valuables like jewellery should be kept with you in a bag which is going to be with you at all times.

3)      Gather all the details about the place you are visiting. You should be familiar with the crime rate of the place you are going to be staying at.

Some things that should be considered when at the airport:

4)      As you check in make sure that someone keeps a check on your baggage. Do not let yourself be distracted away from the baggage at the airport. Never leave your baggage on the conveyer belt till you don’t get through the metal detector queue. People tend to pick up your bag knowingly or unknowingly, when you are stranded in the queue and let your luggage free.

When driving in other countries, there are a few pointers that can be kept in mind:

5)      It is fun to go for a long drive when you are in another country. However, you might end up facing problems when it comes to traffic rules related to side of steering, road markings or other signs. You should be aware of the basic traffic rules and regulations of that particular region. You should be handy with the road maps.

6)      It is of utmost importance that you accustom yourself with the features of the car. Avoid renting a car which symbolises that it is a rented car and you are a tourist. This grabs attention of the robbers as they know that you are not familiar with that area. Do not leave the maps inside your car.

7)      You should always have a working and fully charged cell phone that can operate in the country you are visiting. If your provider doesn’t provide international roaming, try renting a number there itself for emergencies and keep a list of all the important numbers that you may need at some point with you.

8)      As you drive, make sure someone in your family can drive as well. Long drives can exhaust you and can make you lose out on your part of enjoyment. Lock the car properly and do not leave any valued possessions inside. If you have small children with you buckle them in properly and preferably make them sit on the rear seat.
