Security in Afghanistan

Afghanistan has become a strife ridden land in recent times due to certain crucial developments that have changed this land forever. The peace in this nation was disrupted largely after 1979 when the Taliban overthrew the existing rulers and established their own monarchy. The strict, anti-human rules and regulations of this new regime slowly resulted in the country’s downfall. The Taliban are said to be a rationalist group that lays a high degree of emphasis on religious doctrines, dogmas and other such ideologies that hamper the country’s progress.
The US invasion of Afghanistan was conducted with a view to stabilize the international peace and security situation in the world as the kind of rule established here was unpredictable and dangerous to other countries. However, the efforts of the US and British army were met with heavy resistance on the part of the militants who have taken up arms against the government and officials in alignment with American forces. A civil war like situation can be observed here today thus disrupting the everyday lives of the common citizens of Afghanistan.
There has been a great spurt in suicide and other bomb attacks in public places so much so that Afghanistan has been deemed as the most dangerous place on earth for a baby to be born today. This status has been accorded to this country because of the unpredictability of the situations that can spiral out of control at any possible moment. No area is safe from the attacks of the militants. The guerilla-like tactics of the terrorists have left most cities in turmoil and chaos. There can be no investment or industry in such a region which has also significantly slowed down economic progress.
Kabul has become one of the key targets in this civil war. American forces spend most of their time hunting for crude devices that can go off at any time injuring and killing the people around. The porous borders of the neighboring Pakistan also serve as havens for running the training camps of these terrorists who seemingly fight in the name of God. The southern part of the country is said to be much more dangerous than the northern portion. It is believed that as one progresses towards southern cities, the security situation gets worse and worse.
Kandahar has seen many successful and unsuccessful assassination attempts at officials holding high positions in the current government. Insurgency, vehicular bombs, rocket attacks have become common sights in most major cities. People are afraid to even venture out of their homes as no part of the streets is safe. When not at the target of these insurgents, people find themselves at the receiving end of injuries arising out of the multiple landmines that dot the land and cost people their limbs and sometimes their lives as well.
There is a complete rehaul of the state machinery that is required to make this country a safe place to live in. The world needs to focus their attention on this problem before it gets out of control and becomes a grave danger for the peace and security of the world at large.
