Teach your kids FIRE SAFETY

A fire can occur at any time in any part of your house. It is especially important to keep your kids informed about fire safety tips so that there are no mishaps in your family. Kids can be quite careless when it comes to fire and can end up giving themselves or others around them burns that may even be fatal in some unfortunate cases. The following points should be kept in mind for maintaining a secure and safe environment:

  1. Make sure that there are smoke detectors installed all over your household so that even the slightest trace of a possible fire starting can be found out well within time. This enables you to take the required measures to prevent a huge fire that may end up engulfing all your important possessions and your home. Your kids should be aware of exactly how these smoke detecting alarms work so that they can inform you or call for help in case you are absent from the house.
  2. Your kids should be provided with detailed instructions on how to work a fire extinguisher so that they are able to douse minor fires on their own before they escalate into something bigger and more dangerous. The fire extinguishers should be kept at accessible places at key points in the house so that there is no difficulty for kids with relatively shorter height in reaching them.
  3. Your should make sure that you warn your kids about the dangers of playing with match sticks or any other fire related hazards like candles and crackers unsupervised. You should always be presiding over any activity that involves the use of fire. If your kids ever mistakenly drop burning match sticks on furniture or wooden flooring, there can be a fire in the house.
  4. Your kids should be aware of what to do in case any piece of their clothing or body part catches fire. They should start rolling on the ground or use blankets to eliminate the flames.
  5. Your kids should be aware of your office or workplace numbers so that they can reach you in case they suspect a fire in the house. They should also be armed with enough information about the nearest fire station so that they can call them in case of an emergency and to minimize losses.
  6. Make sure that your kids do not play with electric wires as there can be a short circuit that can quickly result in a fire.
  7. Your children should be aware of a few first aid basics so that they can provide immediate help to themselves or others around them who are in need. They should know what exactly to do in case of any such event. You should ask them to use water or sand if nothing else is at hand to put out flames. They should be instructed to just rush out of the house and then make important calls from a safe place instead of staying in to do so.

If the following tips are followed, you can be assured that your children will remain safe from possible fires and will possess enough useful information to keep themselves secure and away from injuries and accidents.
