How to Better Protect Your Home against Lock Picking

There are many resources and online websites these days that methodically engage would be criminals and provide step by step exercises for beginner lock pickers to learn the art of this craft.

Most amateur and novice lock pickers generally do not develop the needed skills over time to move on to increasingly harder locks.  That being said, there are a few inspector gadgets out there that have honed their craft and can gain access to a difficult lock in record time.

Lock picking entrails lifting the binding pin to the shear line inside of a keyed lock and those criminals that can’t figure out how to do that might consider just drilling out the core of your deadbolt if no one is home.

Homeowners can better protect themselves against lock picking attacks by choosing high quality home security door locks such as Schlage, Assa-Abloy, Kaba, Medeco, MUL-T-lock and or Schlage Primus.  Thieves using makeshift items such as paper clips or safety pins won’t even come close to opening these locks.

It is advisable to look for stainless steel 6 pin keyed cylinder locks or a deadbolt system that offers a pull bolt mechanism that protects the device from being tampered with or unlocked without using a master key.  Knob style lock cylinders can be master keyed by a locksmith and pull bolt systems can add additional security by bolstering existing locks.  If these systems don’t appeal to you, another option is to purchase a double lock night latch system.  These types of locks make it very difficult for a common thief to pick and most won’t spend the time hanging around your door trying to figure them out.  Criminals want fast and easy access and generally will not attempt to pick difficult locking systems.

Pull bolt locks can replace conventional easy to pick 5 pin systems and feature a single body with a large casing.  This casing utilizes a tongue and groove system that intersects the hasp to enable the device to be locked securely when engaged.

Stainless steel 6 pin locks and pull bolt systems can not only be used by residential homeowners but storefronts and businesses can benefit as well from added security.  Your home and family are your greatest investments, so why not use the best locking devices available.
