Safety tips to be followed while going Jogging

Jogging may be viewed as an everyday activity with not many people considering safety tips while undertaking this form of exercise. Most people are in the habit of not really according much thought into their daily routine of morning or evening jogging. However, it is important to follow a certain set of precautions to remain safe as most crimes occur quite unexpectedly as people go about performing their routine actions. These tips are even more useful in case you are a woman who is in the habit of jogging alone. Many women can be under false notions that nothing can happen to them while jogging as they are very close to their place of residence. But, the truth is that there are many cases of abductions and molestation that happen to women when they are walking or jogging alone.

Some of the following tips can be kept in mind while going for jogging to maximize your security:

  1. You should remain alert and informed about the events that are taking place in your surroundings. This is important to do as small, seemingly insignificant things can provide helpful warning signs regarding a future mishap.
  2. You should always try to jog in a direction that is opposite to that of the vehicular traffic. This is because when you jog along with the traffic, you can be easy to miss for some drivers. On the other, hand, if you jog against the flow of cars, most drivers will be able to see you clearly thus reducing the chances of being hit to a large extent.
  3. You should try to refrain from jogging with headphones on. Even if you want to listen to some music to keep boredom away, you should listen to it on a low volume so that you are able to hear important sounds like car horns, people shouting, etc. You should not be too distracted in listening to your music which tends to happen when the volume is set to a high level. You should be able to ascertain exactly what is going on around you.
  4. You should try not to go for jogging completely empty handed devoid of any weapons, however small, to protect yourself in the event of an attempted crime. You can easily carry a pen knife in your socks or your shoes. You should avoid putting such weapons in your shoes as they must be easy to retrieve in case of a sudden event. You can even carry a small container of pepper spray or even a small tazer to shock your perpetrators.
  5. You should never become completely exhausted on your jogging routine. You should have a little bit of energy levels even at the end of your exercise regime so that you have enough strength to undertake a plan of action in case something goes wrong towards the end of your jogging.

The above mentioned tips are very useful in making sure that you remain safe while jogging and that it remains a peaceful and enjoyable activity.
