Electronic Locks

The traditional locks that opened with the help of a key are slowly being replaced by a more sophisticated type of technology; that of electronic locks. These locks, as the name suggests work electronically. You do not need to open these locks using a key. They can be opened by entering a few digits that have been set as a password. The user himself can choose a password and then provide it to people that he/she trusts. The password is in the form of a code in terms of digits that needs to be remembered for a door to open.
Electronic locks are quite useful. They completely eliminate the need of carrying a key with you wherever you go when you leave home. All you need to do is keep in mind the number of the lock that can be entered in the matter of a few seconds for a locked door to open. The best part is that these locks are very difficult to break. A traditional lock can be picked by potential burglars using a pin or any other such crude device if he is adept at opening manual locks. However, there is simply no way to open an electronic lock except by hacking the set password.
Electronic locks are capable of being attached to pre-installed systems of security in your household. This implies that if you have an elaborate alarm system fitted in your home, you can connect it to the electronic lock. So, when someone tries to enter in a code and repeatedly enters wrong digits, the alarm is likely to go off thus alerting you to an intruder’s presence outside your house.
The process of opening a door through an electronic lock is much easier and simpler. It also takes very little time. The longevity of these keyless entry locks is much more than the manual ones as the manual ones were known to rust and get stuck in some cases. No such problem can ever be observed in case of electronic locks. The practice of thieves getting a duplicate key made to be able to open your doors at night can also be done away with as electronic locks cannot be replicated in any way to be manipulated for entrance.
There are many types of such locks available at various places today. The ones that run on battery are more preferable as they can be installed just about anywhere without worrying about a socket nearby or an electrical plug. They will also work when there is simply no source of energy available. This makes them quite proficient.
If you are using an electronic lock, you should keep a few things in mind to protect the security of your home from getting breached. The first thing to remember is to never leave your written passwords lying around here and there unmindfully. The password must be one that cannot be randomly guessed. It must be something unique and must be provided only to those members who can be trusted without doubt.
