How to protect your family from H1N1

The H1N1 virus is spreading at a rapid speed and infecting people all over the word. It causes swine flu which is just like the normal flu except the fact that it is much more dangerous and unlike the seasonal flu can even result in death if timely treatment is not provided. This is because of the complications that may arise especially if the victim is too young or old and has a weakened immune system. People who have heart problems are also highly at risk of developing complications if they contract swine flu. There are many ways in which you can protect your family from getting infected by the H1N1 virus. Some of them have been mentioned below:

  1. The first and foremost thing that you can do is to simply wash your hands from time to time throughout the death. This simple but effective action alone significantly reduces the risk of developing swine flu. This is because if you have managed to pick up the H1N1 virus, you can simply wash it off by using anti bacterial soap. Simply washing your hands with plain water is not enough. It is advisable to use a disinfecting soap or hand wash for best results.
  2. You should be aware about the areas where the H1N1 virus is present in a considerable manner and avoid travelling to such places. This is because this virus spreads through human contact and it is best to avoid countries where this virus is the most widespread to avoid getting infected.
  3. You should refrain from eating at restaurants and hotels for a few days in order to keep away from this virus.  This is because you cannot be sure if the persons preparing your meals are infected with this virus or not. In case the chef is infected by this virus, it can easily get in the food that you are served and result in your sickness.
  4. You should avoid visiting public places where huge crowds tend to gather like cinema halls, theatres, public parks, etc. especially if the area in which you live is experiencing a swine flu epidemic. If you are unable to stay away from public places, you should consider wearing a gas mask in order to avoid getting infected.
  5. If you find someone around you sneezing, coughing or showcasing other flu like symptoms, it is advisable to simply stay away from such a person until these symptoms have subsided. If you do not do so, you will be putting yourself unnecessarily at risk of getting infected by the H1N1 virus.
  6. You should alter your diet in such a manner so that your immunity levels are raised in order to fight off this virus. You should increase the amount of green vegetables that you consume and stay away from junk food for a few days. Getting adequate sleep and rest are also vital elements that can help boost your immunity.

The above mentioned safety precautions should be communicated to all the members of your family in order to prevent this disease. You can also consider getting vaccinated against this disease.
