Cleanliness and safety is of utmost importance for any hospital. As the government is planning to spend billions in the health technology, survey suggests many hospitals, private clinics and health institutions are not adopting minimal safety measures required. Every hospital should have efficient infrastructure as well as established standards for bypass surgery, angioplasty, heart attack care and other major issues.

Safety management is a very important issue that is to be catered to during the planning of any sort of infrastructure not only from fire safety as well from thefts and natural calamities. The hospital has many electronic types of equipment, chemicals and combustible gases, lots of electric wiring that are prone to many hazardous fire accidents. The stair cases and lobbies should be wide enough to allow free movement of people. In any case of any emergency there should be appropriate refuge area as well proper exit should be provided to all occupants primarily to the patients. Suitable fire fighting equipments and heat detection should be present in ample amount. The staff should be trained to handle in case of urgency and chaotic situations.

Health ethics is another important behaviour that is involved in daily routine. While hospital or medical clinics are places of healing and cure, unhealthy sanitary conditions can lead to infections causing further risk to life. There should be proper waste management especially the disposal of used injections, needles, cotton so as to ensure cleanliness. Every day the hospital is attacked by variety of germs, bacteria and virus which increases the number of patients getting infected from the medical centre itself. The germs if not catered to in time may cause disastrous consequences. Every sick should be attended to once.

A detailed and proper description of symptoms is the key to the proper diagnosis and cure. The patient should make sure to put forth all minute details precisely. More accurate the details would be, the doctor’s job would be easier. It is necessary for the patient or anyone related to patient to alert the hospital staff about any allergies to any chemicals or anaesthesia or any reaction to a particular medicine to facilitate the doctor’s process of curing. During the period of medication one should be aware of the medicines and the proper diet intake and should always ask for the nurse’s assistance. The patient should be very vigilant to the doctor’s advices and instructions.

In some hospitals food from outside venue is not allowed and a patient should not consume without the consultation of the medical authority. Certain equipments are very sensitive to electric and magnetic fields so use of cell phones, pager should be prohibited so as not to disrupt the working of machinery. There are certain hospitals which ban flowers because of the risk of infection as pollens carry bugs risky for patients. The visitors coming to visit the patient should also consider these facts.

The patients as well the hospital authorities and health care centres should adopt safety tips and standards to improvise the quality of treatment meted out to patients and to reduce unnecessary risk of infections and death.
