In a layman’s term, eve teasing are words that are used to refer to open sexual aggravation, street nuisance and molestation against women from their male counterparts. Regarded as an issue that relates criminal behavior in early childhood, it is a form of sexual harassment that varies in cruelty such as indicative remarks, brushing in open locations, catcalls and utter groping. There are times when it is considered as a means of fun, making it seem inoffensive without any form of liability on the offending person. A number of feminist as well as voluntary establishments have recommended that the term be swapped with a more fitting term. This has been prompted by the roots of the term that tends to place all the blame on the shoulders of the woman as a result of the alluring nature of Eve.
Proving eve-teasing as a criminal offence has been extremely difficult for a majority of women given the fact that the offenders are constantly devising new ways through which they can harass women. Discussed herein are several ways through which you can deal with the menace of eve-teasing
How to deal with eve-teasing
First and foremost, the police force has to make a firm decision of arresting and seeing to it that the perpetrators are prosecuted to the full measure of the law. By doing so, this will ensure that those who are constantly harassing women would think twice of their action. However, this cannot be accomplished if there are still elements of corruption, favoritism and nepotism when applying the full force of justice system.
Secondly, given that this is a problem that stems from early childhood, it is vital that every household start teaching their sons the importance of traditional values. The sooner this is instilled in the early childhood of children they will grow up appreciating the value of women in the society. In addition, parents need to get more involved in their children life. Due to the pressure that the society has, parents hardly spend time with their children and as a result they have no control over them. Parents should not just focus on how they can get their children educated but should continually get involved in their upbringing to ensure that they understand their moral values.
It is difficult to manage the problem by just sitting and hopping that it will go away. The more we turn a blind eye to it as parents, the more we are encouraging it. Whenever you notice incidences of eve teasing on the news or in the streets, it is extremely important to educate your children and those around you on the negative impact it has on the society.
Thirdly, in order to win the war of eve-teasing, it is vital that as woman, create or join community or civil based organizations or communities that can assist in educating you on how to deal with such menace and can also champion your cause.
