Safety from Pickpockets

Anyone who has spent some time in a crowded area or visited common places like railway stations, buses, fairs or trains must have been pick pocketed once and if not then should make future amendments that it will not happen in the future. Pickpockets are those smart people who can make away with your wallet even without your notice. We just have to be smarter to understand their moves and not get into their traps.

It is very important to have those important papers, cash and passport as close to the body as possible. One should carry only the necessary items required for the day and not all the identification and debit cards and even extra cash. One should prevent showing money and important cards in public places. Pickpockets generally work in groups so one should always be careful of any unwanted elements in the immediate surroundings who usually try to distract your attention while another group member is carrying out the job of emptying your pocket. If you have any feeling that you are being followed by someone then quickly change your direction and should immediately enter the nearest possible open area to distract that person.

The best defence against pickpockets is using a money pouch or belt which is very close to the body. The pouch should have a single zip and that should be place towards your body instead to the outer area. Keep the required amount of cash in that and maybe just one credit card for easy reach. There are many instances of bags and purses getting stolen in cafes and restaurants, so one should never place them on the ground or hang them on the chair while eating or drinking. Even if it is a small handbag, it should be placed on the handbag while dining.

Cameras and laptops are highly targeted by thieves as people tend to sling their holders on the shoulders and neglect them but these bags should be never left unattended. There are high chances of pick pocketing while travelling in public transport system. While on any local bus or train or even cab one should have ones hand firmly placed on the money belt or the handbag one is carrying. In case of any knowing pushing by any stranger one should be ready to counteract and not get immediately distracted. One should always display a very confident attitude and not a fall a prey to street vendors and pick pockets.

In spite of all guidelines one should always be prepared for the worst situation by carrying back up information. Carry reserve money for emergency use in places other than the wallet. Immediately after the theft file a report with the police and keep the number for further reference. The credit cards should be immediately blocked. There should always be a copy of the documents like the passport and credit card numbers which can be accessed any time. Preparing for any misfortune in future and being attentive about valuable things can prevent any kind of pick pockets.
