Safety and Health tips for Pregnant Women

To a woman, pregnancy is one of the most vital phases in her life and millions look forward to this time. Maybe as a result of the overwhelmingly mysterious stages that take place in her womb during pregnancy she also becomes vulnerable to a myriad of complications during the nine months. It is vital for a pregnant woman to adhere strictly to meticulously arranged schedule and take the necessary safety measures so that the life form growing inside her is not exposed to any form of danger. Other than staying clear from work which needs physical pressure and taking frequent rests at specified time frames as a way of keeping her body healthy and strong, there are other precautionary measures that a pregnant woman needs to adhere to in order to avoid any complications that may rise. This is especially related to the types of food she can consume during this period.
During the pregnancy, it is normal that the needs of the body grow in leaps and bounds. But, this is because there is another life that is forming from the inside which demands more as the pregnancy progresses. As such, physical pressure of any nature should be avoided at all cost. This is because the fetus is fragile. It is paramount that a pregnant woman follows a balanced diet all the time. Given the fact that the growing fetus contributes to the requirements of the mother’s body, it is normal that the food needs, both in respect to amount and quality, shoots up as the pregnancy develops. It is during this time that supplements are beneficial to the body. For example, folic acid supplement is highly recommended prior to conceiving and while the pregnancy is enhances. Common birth defects, i.e. spinal bifida can be avoided if the mother sticks to a healthy dose of prescribed folic acid supplement during the pregnancy. In addition, it should be noted that if mayonnaise and raw eggs are consumed in large amounts they can eventually lead to miscarriages. The same applies to liver and vitamin A, these two needs to be taken sparingly. It is a known fact that too much of vitamin A results into birth defects.
Iron is needed in large amounts during all the stages of pregnancy. Therefore, a pregnant woman needs to take lots of fish, beef, whole bread, kidney beans and broccoli amongst other types of food that are rich in iron. This is a measure of keeping the iron level in the blood optimum without the need of taking iron supplements. A beverage to avoid at all cost during pregnancy is alcohol. Too much alcohol, i.e. beer, wine, whisky or brandy are known to cause birth defects. Similarly, the mother needs to avoid any form of addiction as it is not of benefit to the developing embryo. As such, addictive substances, e.g. caffeine and cigarettes ought to be avoided at all costs. The same applies to prescribed medication. It is recommended that if you are on medication and pregnant, you need to consult a doctor on what to stop and continue taking and in what amounts.
