How Kites can be Dangerous

People have different ways through which they pass their leisure time. Some love to go swimming, fishing, shopping and hiking. But, one leisure activity that has been there since time immemorial is kite flying. Over the years, it has taken different forms. From the traditional paper kites, there are now the water kites and power kites. Whereas, flying kites can be a fun filled activity, you need to also be aware that it is full of dangers. Discussed herein are ways through which kites can be dangerous. Flying kites near power lines You stand the risk of electrocution when your kite is flying near power lines. Modern kites are made of materials that conduct electricity. As such, when the kite is just over the power lines, you are at risk of electrocution when it comes into contact with the live power lines. The moment you notice that it has come into contact with power lines, you need to let go of the kite immediately. Unknown to a majority of persons is that electric lines carry over 7 000 volts of electricity and there is the real possibility of the same being passed down your kite line. Do not over rely on the safety labels on your kite that it cannot conduct power. There have been cases where people have been killed as a result of electrocution. Do not attempt to remove the kite on your own, wait until the appropriate personnel arrives. Flying kite in a stormy weather Remember the experiment by Ben Franklin? Well, if you have studied science then this is one of the most common experimental stories. But the reality is, Ben Franklin was lucky to escape to tell of his tales on that stormy weather. He would have been killed by the lightening. Fact, lightening carries more voltage than the average power line. In addition, it can strike at any moment and anywhere regardless of where you are. Right from the moment you decide to fly your kite in a stormy weather, you have placed yourself as lightening rod. As such, when the lightening does strike, you will certainly die. It is for the above two reasons that you should never use metallic lines when out in the open flying your kite. Flying kite in a crowded area A lot of injuries have been reported within leisure parks as a result of those who fly their kites but are not mindful of others. It is easy to be carried away in the moment. In a bid to keep your kite a float you may accidentally tramp on others without even realizing it. Last but not least, you stand the chance of sustaining serious personal injuries, e.g. concussion when you hit objects that are on your way.
