About ninety percent of companies suffer from employee theft problem and this percentage is increasing day by day. This theft is very different from normal theft and is a very serious issue for every company, as this leads to shockingly depletion of the stock of various items from the company house. In fact this employee theft is a very important factor for bankruptcies of various companies and about thirty percent of bankruptcies occur due to this reason.
So in order to sort this problem a company should take various steps in this regard. The first and foremost step a company should take in this field is to make the employers aware of the serious consequences they have to face if they are being caught. The company should make aware to their employees that this will not only take the job of the employee but may also get indulged in various legal jurisdictions and investigations.
But this does not mean the company has full right to blame any employee as this may lead to its misuse. So, various legal laws have been implemented in the field of employee theft. These laws state that a company has no right to take any legal step until the charges made to the employee by the company has been proved by law. In fact a company may also have to pay penalty charge to the employee if in the court it has been proved the charges made were not up to the mark and were meant to harass the employee. So a company should properly investigate the matter before making such charges to any of its employee.
There are some forms of employee theft which are impossible to control. Intellectual employee theft is one such matter. But still a company should take some measures to control it. This can be done by the introduction of highly secured contracts by consulting the key personals of the company like senior scientist, manager or any other major administrative post holder who can be trusted. But the real fact is these all are theoretical measures as when these key company professionals switches to another company then he or she may use those private and confidential date of that company in a wrong way to uplift the present company where he or she is currently working. But the most sorrow part of the story is the company cannot take any legal step against that employee, as such theft can never be proved.
Customer theft is another form of this employee theft. In this type of theft an employee of a company leaks the list of all the clients or customers of that company to another company competing in the same filed in the market.
Employee theft also involves leakage of private and confidential data of the company like the tender details, information about the new product to be launched in the market and various other secured information of that company.
So employee theft is a very serious issue for each and every company and should be handled properly otherwise the company may have to incur heavy loss as result of it.
