Traveling abroad can be viewed as a once in a lifetime opportunity to see other people, experienced other cultures, enjoy different foods and delicacies, learn new dialects, and perhaps meet someone special. It can be a complete package of total relaxation where your mind has nothing to think about but to enjoy and have lots of fun. Sometimes, you have to go abroad on account of business necessity or simply to visit a relative.
Wherever part of the world you would want or need to go, you need to observe important travel safety precautionary measures. Definitely, you cannot settle for anything less when it comes to your personal safety abroad, especially when you are legally regarded as alien or foreigner.
Here are some simple yet basics tips when planning to go abroad:
- Plan ahead. This is the very first consideration. Preparing all the things you need for your travel abroad cannot be accomplished overnight. You need enough time to sort out things. Prior to your business travel, let your secretary prepares all the pertinent documents you need to bring – all original copies if possible. Don’t forget your passport and visa.
- Leave a copy of your travel itinerary at home. Include in the list the number of your local counterpart (if there is any) as well as your hotel contact numbers. Indicate also your expected date of return. When such date arrives and you are not yet at home, that will already warn your family.
- Know your place of destination. Also, this cannot be done overnight. You have to check on the internet for its geographical location. Part of your searching is to pinpoint the exact address or location, contact numbers and contact personnel of your country’s embassy in the place. Knowing who and where to run to in case of emergency will increase your confidence.
- Know the place where to stay. This should be pre-arranged. You must reserve a hotel accommodation for yourself. You cannot simply get down from the air plane, ride a taxi and instruct the driver to bring you to the nearest and the best hotel in town. That is dangerous! Before you leave, it is best to ascertain the services being offered by your chosen hotel and that should include transportation service.
- During the entire duration of your stay, create an impression that you are harmless and low profile. You must have heard of tourists being kidnapped for ransom left and right. You can totally avoid being a victim yourself. Carry yourself simply without necessarily appearing like a rich man. Do not be intimidating with your conduct so as not to provoke the people around you. Remember that you are subject to the laws of the country’s you are visiting. Obey simple traffic rules and observe customary manners. When you are to go from one place to another, do not wear your jewelries, just carry enough money, traveler’s checks and or one credit card that you would need for the day.
