One gets acquainted with the rules of his own country as he grows up. These rules seem nothing new to person who has grown within the system. However the rules are not the some around the world. They are drastically different at some places while similar at some other. You may be a part of a democratic country or a member of any kingdom. But the rules may seem a bondage to you if you are not able to adjust to them quickly. Thus the secret behind making you feel at home is to absorb the ways of a country as soon as possible. There is always a danger that you may flout the age old rules of a country which might have a deep root and connection with the culture of the country.
You should first of all know the basic ways of the people of the country. Way of living and the sentiments of the people of the country must be understood properly. You would give top most importance to your family’s safety when you are abroad. So you must try to remain safe by keeping some basic instructions in mind rather than being repentant afterwards.
While you visit a country know the recent history of the country, its relation with your country and its geographical and diplomatic neighbors. You can do a quick research on internet to gain such information. You should also know about any presence of your own embassy in the country that you are about to visit. You should always try to avoid the red light areas and conflicted or disputed regions within the country if any.
You must keep yourself abreast with the local traditions and customs of the country. You might be unaware of some signs and symbols which may have a different meaning altogether in the country, and that might be a very common gesture in your country. You must consult with your travel agents who can advise upon which signs not to be used in the country.
The dress sense is also vital as many western dresses are regarded as vulgar in the east and the orthodox people get easily offended. You should avoid catching an eye of too many people. You must keep duplicate copies of your original passport while you set out. Since when you are in a foreign country you may run against rogues who may steal your belongings. So it’s always better to have a backup. You may also keep scanned copies of your passport and save them as drafts in your mails, for future reference.
Keep a copy of three for every original document of yours. Also you must keep along with you the contact details of your country’s embassy in the foreign country that you are paying a visit. Avoid wearing flashy ornaments and keep yourself aloof of scarcely populated areas without proper security.
People are allergic to certain type of water food and environment. Hence you must run a quick check of the basic tap water before opting to use or consume it. Keep yourself away from sexual encounters that can help you prevent from transmitting and carrying infectious diseases such as AIDS. You should maintain a humble and friendly behavior with the locals that may help you to accustom with the locals.
These are some of the basic rules that can help you maintain a safe stay in a foreign country and along with it may also help you to squeeze out of trouble that are often likely.
