Fake Security Cameras Fool Criminals

WINN dummy cameras are an exact match to real cameras. We challenge you to see the difference.

Technology in the modern era has reached new heights and with it has the home surveillance system. New and improved models of surveillance cameras like the infra-red, dome, vandal proof etc are being put to use on a daily basis by a huge chunk of homeowners to safeguard their premises. But with the dip in the economy, it might be too heavy on the pocket to spend so much money on such a high tech surveillance system as it tends to be very costly. With this in mind fake surveillance cameras which can mimic actual cameras in almost every way, except for the recording part, have been put to use. These ones cost much less but still protect your house from potential miscreants.

Fake cameras come in various shapes and sizes and functionalities. For a high enough price, it can even look exactly like a high end surveillance camera with flashing lights, motion detectors and normal lighting devices. Many of them actually come with the outer cabinet of an original surveillance camera barring the recording components present inside it. These ones have lights, tilting or slanting movement coupled with motion sensors which can make it almost impossible to distinguish them from actual cameras. Many also have cables from such actual models, which render authenticity and are ideal for installation indoors. Some contain zoom lenses or LED flickers attached to them for emulation. But they come at a hefty price comparable to actual ones in the market and therefore are not suitable for everyone. So cheaper versions are available which are made out of plastics and come with plastic lenses and are hollow inside. They contain no lights or motion features and are usually appear bulkier and hence are easily distinguishable.

Before actually buying the fake cameras, one should do some research and find out the locations which would be ideal for the installation of such a device. The purpose of the camera is to frighten away potential burglars but not normal visitors. So it should be placed somewhere which makes it visible but not noticeable to a normal eye. As burglars actually look for cameras so it should be visible to them on searching and not to everyone passing by as in that case the authenticity is lost. A better way is to use the fake cameras in tandem with the actual ones so that it seems like more areas of your house is protected. As thieves usually try to dismantle and break the cameras so the actual ones should be placed somewhere hidden and not easily found and the fake ones should be out there in the open. This way the house will be safe.

However, one disadvantage of the dummy camera is that it can only scare away thieves on the ground of a false appearance but can’t record any event of the crime when it happens. So the police can’t recreate anything from it. It almost becomes useless then.

Nevertheless, dummy cameras do help in securing a house from potential burglars and is a cheap and easy way to safeguard the premises if paired with actual cameras.
