Safety gear required while playing cricket

The game of cricket can be tracked back to as early as 1550. The game was first played in a town called Guildford in Surrey. The phrase was later quoted in an Italian English dictionary in 1598. It was written by a man known as Florio. It was later played by the British citizens in a town called Aleppo.
Whilst playing the game of cricket there are numerous injuries which a player can incur, for example, fractures plus bruises. The most common type of injuries in a game of cricket is injuries to the lower arm, fingers and elbows whilst batting. Injuries a player is likely to incur whilst bowling are back and lower limb injuries. Other forms injuries that a player is most likely to incur in a game of cricket are fractures on the face in case the player is hit by a ball on the face.
These injuries can be prevented if the players put on the right equipment specially made for cricket. To ensure that the game is much safer for bowlers, players and batters, it is critical that the players take certain precautions. Illustrated below are safety precautions that cricket players should take so as to ensure for their safety:
- First and foremost, as a player you need to prepare for the game both psychologically and physiologically.
- Take time to warm up for the game by doing several stretches. The warm up ought to include at least ten minutes of training.
- Bowlers ought to also warm up prior to the game.
- The numbers of overs which a bowler does in any game should be limited.
- All the players tasked with keeping the wicket should wear at all times a helmet alongside a face guard. The same applies to all players that are batting.
- If there are players that are fielding in close proximity, they should also put on a helmet complete with a face guard.
- Before the game, make sure that the field has been checked for any dangerous materials such as broken glasses or nails. These are to be removed immediately.
- All the players should drink enough fluids before the game. This will prevent them from being dehydrated during the game. Players spend hours under the sun and as such should be well hydrated prior to the game.
- All the players should wear sunglasses, caps, hats and put on sun screens so as to protect themselves from the destructive UV rays.
- Ensure that there is a first aid kit at hand whenever a game is being played. This will ensure that any injured player can be attended to in case of injury.
- Players should warm down after every game. The warm down should be made up of approximately five minutes of training.
Whilst playing cricket, in case all the players adhere to these measures they should be in a position to play the entire game in a safe surrounding. Cricket is a fun sport, but only if a player is wearing the right protective clothing.
