Do you have a hard time pulling yourself away from the Internet? You could be exhibiting signs of addictive behavior.
In this twenty-first century, computers have made their entry in almost every home and along with them, the World Wide Web or the internet has also established itself. Today’s kids are very smart and they are addicted to electronic gadgets. Today they spend more time indoors, sitting in front of the computer rather than playing outdoor games. This is a bad habit. They are becoming addicted to the internet and losing interests in other activities. Any kind of addiction is bad and addiction at a tender age is worse. Nowadays most kids are getting addicted to the internet.
At times we see the parents are getting frustrated and worried when their children spend more time on the net. But, it is the parents only who opt for the internet connection because they believe that it can help their children in their studies and it makes learning more easy and simple. They subscribe for it because of a good reason. But in most cases the children are misusing it and are addicted to it to an extent that they feel like they cannot live their lives without it. The main use of the internet should be for studying. But once they get addicted to the Web then they cannot concentrate on studies resulting in a poor performance in studies.
Instead of using the internet for study purpose, the kids use it for various other purposes, such as, playing online games, instant messaging, staying active on various social networking sites, making new friends online and chatting in various chat rooms. When a kid tastes all these, he becomes addicted to it and this is detrimental for his or her studies. It is the prime duty of the parents to look after their children and prevent them from getting addicted to the virtual world.
The parents should check and keep a track on how many hours the child is spending online. Parents should confirm that these hours spent on the internet, are they for any genuine reason or is it simply because of addiction. One should see that there is no sudden decline in the child’s school performance and behavior with others. At times we see that the children get addicted to the virtual world because they want to escape from the real world. If it is so, then the parents should try to find out the reasons for it and try to resolve the issues.
The parents should keep a check on the sites that their children are visiting. They should ensure that the children are not visiting any adult or other illegal sites. If they find that the children are visiting it, then they should take the necessary steps.
The best way to prevent a child from getting addicted to the internet is to engage them in other extracurricular activities which will help them in the future. Last but not the least, the parents should talk to their children and make them understand about the bad effects of internet addiction.
