Protect Yourself from Common Cold

Winter season is here with us again. With temperature going below 00C, the risks of developing hypothermia and getting frostbites amongst other conditions and injuries that come with the cold weather are heightened. As such, it is crucial that you know how to safeguard yourself from the cold weather. You can ensure that your family is protected by making sure that they are dressed in correct clothing and taking necessary measures against the cold. Discussed herein, are ways to protect yourself and your family from the cold weather this season:

Desist from going out

Minimize your outing trips and don’t step out unless it is very important. While going out for workplace, ensure that you are properly dressed. For extreme cold weather, use scarf, mask and gloves. These are in addition to the sweater and trouser that you are putting on.

Heaters

Ensure that the heating system in your house is working properly. If you do not have an air conditioning system, you can purchase a heater from your local retail store. This will ensure that your living room and bedroom are heated throughout, thus preventing risks of developing common cold and flu.

Cover your mouth and nose

When walking out in the snow, it is important to always cover your mouth and nose. It doesn’t matter if you are just walking from the house to the car. This will prevent you from contracting respiratory diseases as a result of inhaling the cold air.

Dress warmly

Since you have to leave the house for school, work and the shopping mall, ensure that you are dressed in warm clothes. Put on layers of clothes in order to keep your body warm. Remember to also put on a hat and a scarf. Did you know that you tend to lose 50 percent of your body heat through your head? As such, a hat functions in retaining the heat in your body. The scarf should be wrapped round your mouth and nose so as to help you with breathing.

Wear warm leggings

If you work outdoors, you are at a greater risk of contracting frost bites or hypothermia. Therefore, it is important that you put on warm leg coverings plus heavy socks. Before putting on your shoes, wear at least 2 pairs of socks that are light.

Put on waterproof boots

This is especially important for persons that work outdoors. Waterproof boots will prevent you from catching frostbites by ensuring that your feet are kept warm and dry at all times.

Put on mitten gloves

Unlike other types of gloves, mitten gloves ensure that your fingers are kept close, thus ensuring that you are kept warm.

Staying outdoors during cold weather such as the one experienced during the winter season puts you at risk of developing common cold. In case you have frost bites, desist from massaging or rubbing the area. While some people may think that it is a way of keeping the area warm, unaware of the fact that they are causing further damage.
