Large-Loss Fires Up by More than 50%

In 2007, fire departments responded to an estimated 1,557,500 fires causing $14.6 billion in loss and damage.  Many of these fires were small or had little or no property damage.  However, 71 fires resulted in losses of $5 million or more each.
