Anything can happen at any given moment while driving on the highway. There can be a number of difficulties that you can come across varying from a flat tire to an oil leak. Given the rising cases of incidences on the highway, likelihoods of other motorists stopping to assist you are bleak. Moreover, breaking down in the middle of nowhere with no assistance in sight is also a likelihood. Other than robbing you, highway robbers can maim or kill you in the process. Therefore, it is crucial that you have emergency service numbers such as 911 amongst others with you at all times.

Illustrated herein, are some of the emergency response numbers that you need to have while driving on the highway:

Police response number

Having the contact information of the nearest police post is crucial when driving on the highway, especially at night. Even if you are unable to get your car fix in the required time, police officers will ensure that you get the kind of security you need. Other than helping you to tow the car to safety, they will provide you accommodation at their premise. Given that police are sworn to serve and protect, they will be able to assist you in whatever situation you are in. While the default number to police station is 999 in most countries, you need to verify this information as a number of nations have varying numbers.

Fire department

The fire department is not trained to combat fire outbreak, but also deal with other emergency situations such as flooding and earthquake amongst others. There are situations which you may find yourself in and it is only the fire department that can assist you. For instance, if you run into a ditch and there is no tow service nearby, the fire department can help you to remove your car from the ditch and back to the road.

Ambulance service

In case of an accident, ambulance service will determine whether you live or not. One of the mistakes that most people make in the event of an accident is to move injured people haphazardly. There are injuries such as spinal injuries that can be aggravated if the victim is not moved properly. In addition, an ambulance service can come in handy if you are traveling with a sick person or suffer an ailment such as heart attack while driving.

Road side rescue

Roadside rescue are designed to get you back on the road as soon as possible in case of an emergency. You may have embarked on a long journey and forgot to refuel. If you run out of fuel, road side emergency service will do all that they can to deliver it to wherever you are. Road side rescue service is not that expensive as some people tend to think. While purchasing your car insurance coverage, it is usually offered as an extra. For less than $100 per year, you can get an effective and reliable road side rescue service.

The key to getting to your destination safely while driving on the highway is safe driving. The number of accidents on our roads can be minimized only if all drivers practiced the art of safe driving. People do not die on the roads because they do not know how to drive, however they perish because of the carelessness portrayed by other drivers. For instance, how many times have you heard “do not talk on your cellphone while driving” or “slow down while approaching a bend”? December being a holiday season means that there will be so many cars on the road. Thus you need to drive with even more caution.

Do not talk on your cellphone

The main reason why most drivers are discouraged from talking on their cellphones while driving is because it is a distraction. While some may argue that they use a Bluetooth headset while driving, engaging in a conversation on your phone lowers your concentration on the road. If you have to talk on your cellphone, then look for a safe place to pull over then proceed with your conversation.

Pay attention to other road users

Just because you practice safe driving does not mean that every Tom, Dick and Harry out there does the same. There are times when careless mistakes by other automobile drivers have led to the death of other innocent road users. As such, you need to be attentive while on the road. Lookout for cars that cut on your lane without signaling or cars that comes to an abrupt stop. Avoid things that will take your attention from the road, for example, changing your CD changer or adjusting your AC.

Observe road signs

Road signs are not erected on the roads for display. They are put there to serve a purpose. There are road signs that will tell you that you are approaching a sharp bend or black spot. Therefore, you need to learn what these road signs are so that you can easily interpret them when you come across one. Of importance are the speed limit signs. Going beyond the speeds stated in the signs can cause you to have an accident in case you come across an emergency.

Keep safe distance

While driving on the highway, you need to keep a safe distance between you and the car ahead. This is to allow you to respond to any reactions by the car in front of you. Driving so close to a car that is ahead of you can cause you to crash into them in case they come to an abrupt stop.

Driving on slippery roads

Driving on slippery roads is not the same as driving on a dry tarmacked road. Chances of skidding and losing control are high should you apply an emergency break. If you are driving and it’s raining, it is highly recommended that you reduce your speeds.

Lastly, ensure that your tires have the right pressure and are in good condition before getting into the highway.

It is crucial that every motorist to have a highway emergency service. This is because nobody really knows when they will run out of gas, have a flat tire, or be locked out of their cars. Highway emergency services are usually offered as extras while purchasing your automobile insurance coverage. What’s more is that these services are accessible for a paltry fee per annum. The initial investment needed to acquire the services of a highway emergency service cannot be compared to the benefits you stand to gain. For instance, imagine missing an important job interview just because you ran out of gas in the middle of the highway and were unable to get someone to bring it to you.

Making an informed decision on the right highway emergency service to hire is not that simple. This is because the number highway emergency services have increased by leaps and bounds over the last ten years. Whereas the competition has enabled the cost of doing business to go down, it has also made it pretty difficult for most automobile owners to make the right decision on the best service to hire. Other than the cost, there are several other factors that you have to take into account, for example, services offered and level of expertise. Illustrated herein, are some of the considerations to make when choosing highway emergency services:

Referral system

The best way through which you can select a highway emergency service is to ask for references from friends and family members. Thanks to improved technology and better credit, nearly every household has a car. As such, there are chances that one of your friends has in the past utilized the services of a highway emergency service. If they appreciated the services rendered to them, then they will most likely refer the company to you.

Alternatively, you can use the web to look for reputable highway emergency services. Presently, most business establishments use the internet for advertising their products and services. Hence, you should be able to locate a highway emergency service that is situated in your locality. When using the web to search for reputable highway emergency services, take time to read the various reviews and feedbacks left by previous clients. This will enable you to determine the kind of services offered by the highway emergency service that you are trying to higher.

Services

As soon as you have obtained the contact details of 3 to 4 highway emergency services, you need to take time and compare the services offered by each company. While selecting a highway emergency service, go for a company that offers a wide range of services. The following are some of the services that you should look out for in a highway emergency service:

- Jump starting: There will be times when your car will refuse to start. As such, you need a company that can jump start your battery in the shortest time possible.

- Gas delivery: Given the number of cars on the roads today, likelihoods of running out of gas in the middle of traffic are high. Therefore, you need a company that can deliver gas to you no matter where you are.

- Car lockout: If you have accidentally locked yourself out of your car, then you will require a company that can open your car doors without damaging your car.

Drinking and driving is a serious offense not only in the United States, but also in other parts of the world. Drunken driving is causing most economies to lose billions of dollars annually. The amount of money spent in rehabilitating those involved in a road accident as a result of drunken driving would have been put to good use somewhere. All of us are fully aware of the dangers of drinking and driving, yet most drivers insist on taking alcohol before getting in their cars. The fact that most people have different alcohol tolerance level is what is giving a majority of those that drink and drive an artificial sense of wellbeing. Unfortunately, this artificial sense of security is what has led to untimely death of many a people on the roads due to drinking and driving.

Given the number of injuries and fatalities that rise from drinking and driving, most countries around the world have enacted legislations against drinking and driving. In addition, there are countries that have laws which pass the responsibility of drinking and driving to pub owners. This is why during the hearing of a compensation claim against a drink and drive driver, the owner of the pub is usually enjoined in the case. Discussed herein, are some of the reasons why you should not drink and drive an automobile:

Drinking and driving places your life at risk

The moment you decide to get behind the wheels of your automobile while inebriated, you are putting your life at risk. Alcohol lowers your concentration level on the road, and as such you are most likely to be involved in a road accident.

You risk other people lives

It’s quite unfortunate that the most people who die as a result of drinking and driving are not the drivers themselves, but other road users. Hence, before drinking and driving, you need to think about lives of other road users. One drunk driver can cause the death of up to ten people. Recently, a well-known actor was sentenced to 5 years in prison after decapitating the head of his passenger while driving while drunk. The most unfortunate thing is that he did not even know about it. It only came to his realization the next morning when he was being woken up by police.

You can lose your driving license

When you are charged with DUI, you can be warned or fined. However, the laws have changed over the years and DUI charge includes a suspended driver’s license. What’s worse is that you can go to jail for not less than five years if you are charged and found guilty of DUI.

DUI ruins family lives

Before drinking and driving, you need to think about your own family and that of the other road users. Families are usually torn when they lose a loved one to untimely death.

There are a hundred and one reasons why you should not drink and drive. This article can’t just cover all of them. If you have to drink and drive, make sure that you have a designated driver.

The pleasures of owning a quality vehicle can be experienced both on and off the road, and owners often spend considerable amounts of money not only on the original purchase or ongoing lease, but on accessories, sound systems, and regular maintenance. The costs of a great car can easily become substantial, yet many car owners fail to properly park their vehicles in ways that support a reasonable measure of security. Whether cars are parked incorrectly, in dangerous areas, or with general negligence, this simply everyday act can make a vehicle far more vulnerable to theft and damage. Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to turn the tide on dangerous parking and practice good security controls to reduce the risk of tampering. Those who carefully and honestly assess their parking habits and who consider the benefits and potential disadvantages of a range of parking situations are likely to reconsider their strategies. By understanding why certain parking tactics are likely to lead to higher instances of unwanted complications, drivers can safeguard their vehicles from a variety of common threats.

Most people have probably experienced frustrating scenarios in which someone has parked their car incorrectly, resulting in difficulties for other vehicles attempting to maneuver around the car –or even presenting a major obstacle for pedestrians. From parking over a curb to orienting a vehicle the wrong way in a parking lot and beyond, there are nearly endless ways to incorrectly park a car, almost all of which are likely to enervate others. One of the most immediate consequences of an incorrect parking job is the potential for receiving a ticket or having the vehicle towed, both of which can cost large amounts of money and may cause problems for one’s driving record or ability to retain a license. Beyond these basic risks, however, those who park incorrectly also subject their vehicles to the reactions of others, who may be tempted to vandalize the car. Drivers attempting to park nearby or to leave the area may inadvertently damage the vehicle as well, resulting in multiple potential avenues for problems. Even when drivers are in a rush, it’s important to take note of local parking rules and to abide by them; simply following this strategy can deliver considerable savings and minimize the stress of possible damage.

At home, parking incorrectly may be less of an issue, but other concerns can come into play for cars parked on driveways and in covered shelters. A particularly valuable or attractive car may become a desirable target for thieves, especially when access to the vehicle is freely available. Many proud car owners prefer to park their vehicles in private garages at home, a move that can deliver other benefits as well, including additional storage or work space. A garage can be secured with locks and any number of special security systems, such as structural reinforcements or surveillance set-ups involving functional or “dummy” security cameras. Though deciding to construct a new garage on a property can put a considerable dent in a household’s budget, the value of the construction is sure to endure for many years. Possibly impractical in certain areas and not always the most desirable course of action, installing a garage is nevertheless a popular and potentially very effective way to enjoy better vehicle security.

Parking garages in public may seem to offer similar security benefits, but it’s a good idea to consider the true value of parking in a public garage before paying the typically high fees required to do so. While such a garage can certainly protect a car or truck from extreme weather conditions, it may not be able to protect a vehicle from much else. Most public parking structures post signage or otherwise alert customers to the fact that they will not be liable for any damages incurred to the vehicle while it is parked, making the garage a preventive tool at best. Though it may seem that thieves and vandals are less likely to approach cars parked in public garages, some structures may actually encourage greater instances of criminal activity by providing a centralized area stocked with vehicles and plenty of places to hide. Parking garages that employ surveillance with cameras, security guards, or both are more likely to effectively deter criminals; where as those left completely unattended may prove to be a poor choice for valuable cars.

Just as parking correctly and taking advantage of quality security structures are advantageous moves for car owners concerned about their vehicles, remembering where cars are parked is also crucial. Making strong mental notes including visual cues and street names can help drivers avoid temporary losing track of their cars. When an attentive mindset is paired with a commitment to park well, car owners can count on lower chances of having their vehicles stolen or vandalized.

Though it may seem that in some ways, daily life is able to provide a growing number of conveniences, there are some aspects of today’s evolving society that can make everyday tasks far less enjoyable or even dangerous. One such task that tends to be a common complaint among workers in highly-developed areas is the daily commute. Potentially adding hours to the workday and contributing to frequent, expensive trips to the gas station, lengthy commutes can certainly be annoying –but in many instances, they can also be fairly hazardous to safety and security. With the considerable number of workers who endure substantial trips to and from work every weekday, the potential for both minor and major safety problems is large, especially because related dangers aren’t often considered. By thinking about the potential dangers of a long commute and taking steps to change or eliminate the practice, people can improve their own personal security while also removing a bit of danger from the commuting pool at large.
Even drivers who are experienced on the road and who tend to practice safe driving techniques are vulnerable behind the wheel, and the more time that is spent in a vehicle, the more likely it may be for a driver to experience an accident. In the process of commuting, people often spend hours on the road and come into contact with scores of other drivers, and the opportunity for a crash is ever-present. Aside from potentially causing increases in a driver’s car insurance rates, this issue also poses a threat to personal safety –and though exercising special control over one’s own driving practices may cut down on the chance of an accident, it’s not possible to control the driving practices of others. When time on the road is reduced even slightly, making accidents less likely is a little easier.
Of course, being attentive and defensive behind the wheel doesn’t always describe the driving behavior of those who are used to long commutes. From uninspiring surroundings to the familiarity of a given route, there are many triggers for drivers to “zone out” and pay poor attention to the road and to the actions of other drivers. Taking part in long daily commutes may also cause drowsiness, either in the morning when an early start is necessary to make it to work on time, or in the evening after a long day of stress or toil. The dangers of dozing off while behind the wheel are especially concerning, and can risk the safety of everyone on the road. Drivers who experience regular traffic jams or slow paces on their regular commutes may face even greater challenges, as the frustration of moving more slowly than desired can easily lead to road rage and other emotionally-charged issues capable of prompting irrational behavior and inadvisable driving moves. While the practice of making the same commute on a regular basis may seem to be a cause for safer, more knowledgeable driving, it often presents considerable dangers instead.
A substantial commute doesn’t only threaten personal health and safety when on the road, however. The effects of a grueling trip to and from work can seep over into other aspects of life, leading to psychological problems and placing undue strains on personal relationships. People who spend large amounts of time driving every day may feel that they have less time to attend to their preferred activities, and may struggle with time management as a whole. Feelings of irritability and exhaustion may also arise, and commuters may be ill-equipped to tackle these concerns on their own. Though these issues may seem unrelated to the stresses of engaging in a long daily commute, recognizing them and taking action is of great importance for restoring relationships and achieving greater peace of mind.
There are a number of ways to overcome some or all of the dangers of long commutes, and distinct personal situations are likely to dictate what path is best. Some professional positions may allow workers to telecommute on a regular or occasional basis, which can cut down on the amount of time spent behind the wheel. Asking a superior about such a possibility or seeking out a job in which telecommuting is an option are great ways to pursue a lifeless marked by long hours on the road. Finding a job closer to home, of course, can also reduce long commutes, and the proximity of a given workplace should be a factor when looking for a new position. When these options aren’t available, workers can address some of the dangers of commuting by taking public transportation, or to form a carpool with colleagues. With a keen awareness of the problems of long daily commutes and a commitment to taking action, people may be able to diminish one of modern life’s most pressing inconveniences.

Over the last couple of years, the numbers of cars on the highway has more than doubled. This has mainly been due to access to better credit and improved technology which has made cars quite affordable. However, the increase in the number of cars on our roads has also presented motorist with a new challenge, that of knowing how to drive safely on the highway. Driving on the highway is not like driving on an estate road. It even becomes more challenging when driving at night.

Discussed herein, are tips and guidelines of safe driving on the highway.

Tips and guidelines

Tip #1 – Seat Belt

The first rule that you are taught in driving school is “put on your seat belt the moment you get into your car”. It does not matter whether you are driving to the adjacent supermarket or to a retreat 100 miles away. Putting on a seat belt can save your life in case of a road accident. For instance, did you know that the life of Princes Diana would have been saved had she put on her seat belt?

Tip #2 – Pay attention to the road

While driving on the highway you need to focus all you attention on the road. Try as much as possible to avoid things that might distract you, for instance, adjusting your AC or changing radio stations. Avoid talking on your cell phone at all times when driving on the highway. If you need to make or receive a call, then pull over to the side of the road and make the call. The worst thing you can do is to read or send a text message while driving. If you are listening to music, ensure that it is not loud. This will enable you to listen to what is happening around you. In addition, make certain that your rear and side mirrors allow you to see the cars that are behind you or are on your side.

Tip #3 – Keep a safe distance

While driving on a busy highway, make sure that you have kept a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. This is because you never know when the car ahead of you might break. Keeping a safe distance will allow you to react and bring your car to a halt in case of an emergency.

Tip #4 – Safe driving

Safe driving entails being cautious at all times when on the road. As such, you need to ensure that you are always driving within the speed limits stated on the road. If you are driving at night, make certain that you are driving at a speed that allows you to come to a halt within the distance of your head lights.

In addition to the above, you need to respect other road users. Remember that you are not alone on the road and your actions will determine whether or not another driver gets safely at home. When on the highway, ensure that you have a spare tire in your trunk as you never know when you might get a flat.

Highway emergency Services are designed to assist whenever you are stuck in the highway because of a flat tire, empty fuel tank or dead car battery. Given that you never know when you will be locked out of your car or when you will get a flat tire, it is paramount that you enlist the services of a highway emergency. Highway emergency services are usually offered as extras when purchasing car insurance coverage. Unlike what you may have heard highway emergency services are not that expensive. You can get one for as less as $100.00 on a yearly basis.

Over the last couple of years, the numbers of highway emergency services have more than doubled. While this has made it possible for most automobile owners to afford the services, it has also made it a little bit difficult for car owners to make informed decisions on the right service to choose. There are several factors which you have to take into consideration other than the price, for example, services offered and operational hours. Discussed herein, are factors to take into consideration when selecting the best highway emergency services:

Instructions

Reference

Before stepping out into the market, it is highly recommended that you ask for references from colleagues, friends, neighbors and family members. Given that nearly every household owns a car, likelihoods are that one of your friends is using a highway emergency service. They will refer one to you based on their past experiences with company. Alternatively, you can surf the web for highway emergency services in your area. Most business enterprises today utilize the web as a way of advertising their products and services; as such you should be able to get one that is situated in your locality from the net.

Services

Once you have obtained the names of at least 3 to 4 highway emergency services, you need to find out the kind of services provided by the highway emergency services company. For instance, the company selected should provide:

Car lockout services: There are occasions when you will forget where you have placed your car keys or when you will accidentally lock them in your car by mistake. During such unfortunate incidences, you will need a reliable service.

Hours of operation: Does the highway emergency service company operate after 5 pm? A reliable emergency company is that which is able to come to your rescue any time of the day or night.

Gas delivery: Over the last couple of years, traffic on the roads has increased by leaps and bounds. Therefore, you never know when you will run out of fuel. Consequently, when selecting highway emergency services, make certain that it offers gas delivery services.

Cost

When selecting a reputable highway emergency service company, cost should not be an issue. Nonetheless, you need to make certain that the company is offering you competitive prices in the market. Other than the standard registration and service fee, you need to find out how much the company charges when called to your rescue after business hours.

By ensuring that your automobile is properly maintained, you will greatly reduce the amount of money spent on repairs, improve the functionality of your automobile and ensure that its resell value is not compromised. Did you know that there are people that sell their cars at relatively the same price or even more depending on how well maintained their cars are?

Discussed herein, are a number of automobile routine maintenance which you need to observe to ensure that your car is in tiptop shape.

Tips

Engine

The condition of your car’s engine will determine whether you’ll be buying a new car or engine every year. Therefore, it is crucial that you respond to any minor fault in your engine with the seriousness it deserves. One of the ways of ensuring that your car engine is in good working condition is by changing the engine oil after every 4,000 miles. However, this will depend on the type of car, manufacturer’s specifications and how frequently your drive on the roads. For example, if the road you use is dusty, you will need to change your engine oil as soon as it tarnishes the color. On the other hand, if you have to apply your breaks most of the time while driving to and from work, you will need to also change your engine oil. A common mistake that a number of motorists usually make, especially new motorists is not to allow their engine to warm up before driving off. The purpose of letting your car to idle for a while in the morning or before embarking on a long journey is to prevent the engine oil from contaminating. The following are some of the things you need to observe so as to ensure that your engine is running smoothly:

Change the engine oil after every 4,000 miles or as recommended by your automobile manufacturer.

Ensure that oil filter, air filter and fuel filters are changed during the usual routine maintenance.

Change the plugs in your car every time you are doing a routine maintenance.

Make certain that the PCV valve is functioning as it should.

Transmission

The condition of your car’s transmission is essential since it functions in transmitting energy form the engine to all the four wheels. As such, you need to make certain that your automobile’s transmission fluid is shifting as required. During regular maintenance, have the mechanic look at the level of your transmission fluid.

Batteries

Are you having a hard time starting your car in the morning or after parking it for a couple of hours? If that is the case, likelihoods are that your car battery is not working as expected. If you would like to save hundreds of dollars spent in maintaining your car battery annually, it is highly recommended that you purchase a service-free battery. Most service free batteries have a lifespan of 5 years.

Exploring the world and conducting business with new people are positive and adventurous goals held by scores of adventurers and professionals, but the risks involved in travel sometimes cause people to question their travel plans. Concerns about the safety of transportation methods, the societies of foreign countries, the security of remote hotels or other lodgings, and many other potential travel issues have always existed, but may be especially prevalent when people are immersed in sensationalist news stories or false information. Equally dangerous, however, is a lack of proper knowledge about travel destinations and related areas of interest. While the vast majority of travel plans are not especially dangerous, travelers may create unnecessary risks when information is either absent or has been taken from unreliable sources. By making a point of staying well-informed regarding personal travel plans and falling back on a few basic safety precautions, travelers can enjoy a greater peace of mind and circumvent a variety of possible threats.

With the widespread availability of the internet, finding information about nearly any travel destination is markedly easier than it has been for previous generations. From the pictures and personal experiences of past visitors to the presentations of local governments or tourism professionals and beyond, there are scores of materials online to browses and consider when making travel plans. Of course, some online sources are far more reliable than others, and untrustworthy parties may attempt to provide false information about certain countries, cities, businesses, or customs, making it somewhat difficult for new travelers to arrive at the truth. By paying attention to the nature of the source of such information, however, travelers can gain a fairly good idea of the reliability of information. In general, personalized accounts of various places and travel features are likely to be more realistic than materials generated by companies with a monetary interest in attracting or repelling visitors. Online sites that encourage free discussion and which are not run by governments or corporations are usually quality sources of travel information.

More traditional formats for travel information, such as guidebooks, are also popular tools for finding valuable data about destinations, hotels, and diversions. While guidebooks are typically created by people who have personally researched various areas with the intention of providing people with accurate and useful information, not all such materials are entirely trustworthy. Certain travel series may seem more likely to be legitimate, just as authors with a long history of visiting a certain area may command a greater degree of trust from some users. Yet the most powerful measure of the usefulness of a guidebook is often its reputation among the traveling community at large. Checking out a given guidebook’s reviews, whether in online forums or stores, among friends and family, or in terms of its selling history, allows travelers to get an objective sense of the likely accuracy of the book and the genuine motives of its author or publisher.

These two primary sources of travel information both have their disadvantages for those seeking straightforward and correct data, but one of the most common methods of learning about travel destinations is still more risky. Hearsay and public rumors regarding travel destinations often becomes deeply rooted into the consciousness of modern cultures, resulting in patently false ideas about certain parts of the world that can lead travelers to avoid these destinations or to develop paranoia needlessly. In some cases, these misconceptions may also be responsible for instilling travelers with an unwarranted sense of confidence or comfort. The danger of relying on general public knowledge and gossip about travel destinations and other issues related to adventuring and conducting global business can be quite serious, and may find travelers entirely unprepared and ill-equipped to handle the challenges of their journeys. By treating such information with considerable skepticism and basing planning decisions on more objective data instead, travelers can avoid a wide range of risks.

Acquiring accurate and sufficient data about travel plans is undoubtedly a central part of staying safe while traveling, but that doesn’t mean basic precautions should be neglected. Taking care to identify embassies and emergency facilities, keeping valuables at home or obscured during a trip, and staying organized are all important aspects of avoiding theft, injury, and other unpleasant experiences during travel. So long as travel plans are truly planned out and accompanied by quality information and careful consideration, they can work in tandem with practical preparation to create a generally secure travel experience. Though some parts of the world are certainly more risky for visitors than others, and certain establishments or outings may vary in the danger they present to travelers, most itineraries can be infused with a sound level of security simply by ensuring that necessary information is known and basic needs are addressed before a traveler’s departure.

The condition of the vehicle is of paramount importance when you are on the road. Your vehicle malfunction can cause harm to you as well as others around you. So it is your responsibility to have proper servicing of your vehicle in regular intervals of time.

Maintain your vehicle according to the season. In winter, have snow tyres installed in your car. To keep them in good shape rotate them and have high-speed balancing done for every 5000 miles. The air pressure in the tyres should be maintained in all seasons. This decreases wear and tear of the tyres. Though expensive, anti-rust car spray at the bottom can save the car from rusting.

Keep the snow always removed from your windscreen, whether or not you are driving it. Your windshield washer fluid must be always there in reserve. Preferably it must be rated for -40 degrees. Wash your car at regular intervals also, this way you will keep the salt out of your vehicle.

Brakes are very important. Before each trip, check for the brake pad. Learn to identify the fault in the brake pad with the sounds. For example, a squeaking sound tells of repair or need for new brake pads. Remember you negligence can jeopardise others security.

In winter, the roads are slippery. Put on your sun visor down and wear a good pair of goggles. Drive cautiously, in steady speed. Brakes may take a longer time to stop you, the tyres may skid; when you skid it is preferable that you turn your vehicle with the direction of skid and slowly gain control. Just slamming the brakes may not stop you, keep pumping the brakes.

Keep a kit ready in the car for the winter that consists of snowbrush, shovel, gas line antifreeze, first aid, a can and candle, matches, blanket and booster cable. In case you are stuck have patience and call for help. The can and candle can also help you to keep warm while you wait for help!

In normal weather conditions too, check the cables that connect to the battery. The terminals should not be rusted. If there is rust then you can remove it with a paste of baking soda and water applied with a tooth brush. Replace or recharge a weak battery. If the battery is not sealed, then put distilled water [and not tap water] in it.

Examine the pipes and hoses leading to the radiator. The air filter also needs to be cleared of accumulated of dirt at regular intervals. Engine belts must also be in good form for most of the car breakdown on the road is caused by broken belts. Though the lights-headlights and parking light- do not go wrong often, yet it will be advisable to check them once in a year, when the vehicle goes for a service lift.

Use the air conditioner even if you do not need it, at regular intervals so the seals are lubricated. Apply and release parking brakes so that they are not rusted or corroded. Keep servicing records and also follow all the maintaining requirements that are specified in the brochure. This is important because maintaining according to the need, increase the life of the machine.

Accidents are a common issue and the most occurring incident in today’s world. The accidents can be averted if one drives safely and keep a few things in mind while driving. Most of the accidents that occur at night are because of drunken driving. When one is driving at night he/she needs to be careful that they are not under the influence of any sort of addictive substance that may cause drowsiness while driving. The responsibility of any accident is never an issue when it is situation of life and death.

While driving at night one should take into account a few things. Firstly one should try to take a short trip at night. If traveling a longer distance at night is a necessity, one should try to make the journey with short pit stops on the way. This helps in freeing the brain and averts any occurrence of drowsiness. A cup of coffee or any such caffeine like substance will help in to stay awake and alert while driving. The main reason behind most such accidents at night is the problem of late response on the wheel. Loud music will always keep one awake. The radio or music player may also help in keeping the nerves down while driving at night. There are now a varied range of devices that protect the driver while in is the car. However some new cars are being devised which would have a device preinstalled in them that would alert the driver when there is a hindrance in the way and may even take a way to avert any untoward incident. For people who are visually a bit impaired, he/she should try to take a route that has lesser traffic. In case one is not confident enough to drive at night, a chauffeur should be taken.

The driver should be wise enough to use the high beams of the car. High beams should not be used within city roads. They momentarily blind the driver and may be reason behind such accidents at night. The headlights should be properly switched and keep enough space for the driver to maneuver the car when such a car with high beams comes in front. The GPS device can also be installed and used to be sure in any way the place where one would want to go. The view of driver should always be completely clear. The windshield should be clean and even if it rains one should use the wiper effectively to get a clear view.

While driving within the city, one should make sure the speed is under control and that the car can be steered freely in dire states. The rear view mirror should be properly angled and while trying not to overtake the car travelling in front and at a greater pace. One should not drive while being tired or under any severe mental stress. These few things can save life as well as of the other travelers as well.

Most people get behind the wheel on or act as auto passengers on a regular basis, yet many don’t fully consider the dangers of potential car accidents. A major contributor to injuries and deaths, car accidents can sometimes be prevented when people drive defensively and take proper measures to ensure safety on the road, but even with the best precautions in place, accidents can still occur. Being able to respond to the potential consequences of a car accident is essential for ensuring the health and safety of oneself and anyone else in a vehicle, and while many types of accident-related injuries may require the assistance of medical professionals, many can be addressed –or at least prevented from causing death or further injury– on the scene with the right tools and materials. Having such materials on hand can make a major difference in the severity of car accident injuries, making the creation of a first aid kit for the car a highly important step towards increased security.

First aid kits are typically store at homes, at schools, and in offices, but are less commonly included in a vehicle’s set of supplies. Placing a well-prepared first aid kit in a trunk or under a seat, however, can be vital for providing pain relief, anti-septic control, and even life-saving measures when car accidents occur. The clever placement of a first aid kit within a vehicle also allows owners to have access to necessary materials when on trips or other excursions. With the small amount of space required for the placement of a first aid kit and the negligible cost of most first aid items, there’s often no reason to neglect taking advantage of this highly valuable tool.

Simply having a first aid kit available within a vehicle is, of course, only the first step. The contents of the kit should be wisely chosen and organized to serve the most common or likely needs of a driver or passengers following an accident. Basic supplies such as bandages, swabs, scissors, anti-septic medications, and tweezers should always be included in a first aid kit. It’s also essential to pack a tourniquet or piece of cloth capable of serving the same purpose, as putting a halt to bleeding can be essential for saving lives after car accidents. Car owners may also wish to pack any relevant medications in a first aid kit; pills or other substances regularly required by oneself or by a family member may be vital if a vehicle crashes in a remote area.

Being able to communicate with emergency personnel and to request help at the scene of an accident is especially important. In some cases, mere minutes of response time may make a major difference for the health and safety of a person involved in a car accident. As a result, it’s a good idea to keep helpful contact information together with first aid items. Simply writing down relevant emergency phone numbers, hospitals’ or doctors’ names and addresses, and other important data on a card and including this card in a kit can make it faster and easier to connect with help. In an emergency, people may become disoriented or over-stressed; making it difficult to remember what seems like very basic information. By including contact data in a first aid kit, car owners can minimize the risks of misplacing important information after an accident. Car and medical insurance information can also be included in this package. Though such data may not be needed as urgently as emergency medical care, having it readily available can make handling the aftermath of an automobile accident much easier.

Even with basic construction or minimal materials, first aid items can prove extraordinarily helpful for those in need at the scene of a car accident. Still, it’s good to back up the potential of such kits with a strong personal knowledge of first aid procedures. Drivers and passengers who know how to tie a tourniquet, create a brace, properly dress a wound, provide CPR, and manage shock and severe pain in others can be of great assistance at the scene of an accident. Taking basic first aid courses can keep car owners up to speed with a full range of procedure able to help any injured people in an accident. When a thorough understanding of these procedures is combined with the helpful tools contained in a well-made first aid kit, reducing the damage of common injuries and preventing death on the scene are great possibilities.

Making an effort to drive with a high degree of alertness and to avoid dangerous driving behaviors can benefit everyone on the road, but the potential of car owners and riders armed with first aid kits and relevant knowledge serves a valuable purpose in all driving conditions. With a great first aid-enabled car, drivers and passengers can get where they’re going with confidence.

Camping is an outdoor activity that a majority of people love to do during summer and when the weather is good. Camping can be fun, especially for a family. It’s a good way of bonding whilst exploring the wild. However, preparing for a camping trip is not as easy as some people tend to think. There are several things which you need to take into consideration other than the tent and the sleeping bag. If you are planning for a camping trip and are searching for information on what you need to pack when going for a camping trip, then you will find this guide quite helpful. This article aims to provide you with as much information as possible on how to go for a pleasurable summer holiday.

Tips and guidelines

First and foremost, you need to know where you’ll be going for camping, how long you’ll spend there, who you will be going with and what you will be staying in.

Open-air camping provisions can be classified into three groups, that is, travel gear, provision packing and weather gear. The most critical thing you need to keep in mind while preparing for an open-air camping adventure is to pack smart and light. For example, ensure that your backpack only contains soft gear so that it doesn’t jab you whilst hiking to your campsite. Though it is good to be prepared for every scenario, one must understand that one cannot carry everything for the trip. For easy and light packing, you can utilize gallon baggies.

Find out the climatic condition of the place you will be camping at. If you are camping out during winter, then you need to pack warm clothes. Whilst most people don’t see the need of packing warm clothes during summer, it is important to note that the temperature can drop by a considerable margin at night, especially if you are camping in a forest.

If you are planning for a camping trip during a cold season, then you need to pack the following: gloves, overalls, two pairs of cotton wool socks, two pairs of boots, wicking layer as well as a balaclava. On the other hand, if you are planning for a camping trip during the summer, you need to pack a poncho, waterproof boots, sunscreen, bug spray etc.

More than often, you will find yourself hiking to the campsite rather than driving. There are three types of backpacks you can use while hiking to a campsite. These are:

- Day backpack: This has been specially designed for short hikes.

- Three day backpack: This has been specially designed for a camping trip that lasts up to three days.

- Extra-large backpack: This has been specially designed for camping trips lasting more than three days.

If you are making arrangements for a car camping trip, then you need to ensure that the tents are the first things to pack. Using this method, the first items you need to unpack after arriving at your campsite ought to be the last items you pack prior to leaving for your camping trip.

Air travel is quite different from road or sea travel. As such, if you would like to have a safe and healthy flight, then you need to consider the tips and guidelines provided in this article.

Whether you are planning to fly out of town for business or pleasure you need to equip yourself with as much information as possible so as to ensure that your flight is not only comfortable but also safe. Discussed herein, are tips and guidelines on how you can make your flight comfortable and healthy.

Tips and guidelines

Germ fighter

Unlike what you may have heard, the air in the plane is not hazardously filled with germs. As a matter of fact, the cabin air is frequently filtered more than even the air in an office building. However, this is not a reason to let your guard down. You prone to infections in the air just as you are on land. Whereas the coughing and sneezing of other passengers cannot make you sick, the rapid turnaround duration between flights denotes that particular places in the plane are not properly disinfected in the manner they should be. As such, passengers are advised to carry along with them bottles of hand sanitizers to enable them wipe their sitting areas before settling on them.

Drink up

It is important to point out that drinking up in this instance doesn’t mean overdoing on alcohol. The cabin air normally lacks enough humidity. As such, if you are taking long flights, you’ll soon notice that your mouth, throat and nose are dehydrated. As a result, your immune system can be compromised. To deter the effects of dehydration, passengers are encouraged to drink a lot of water, and not alcoholic or sugary beverages. Given that you cannot carry a bottle of water into the plane, you need to take a lot of it before embarking and ask the stewards to provide you with a bottle of water once you are settled in the plane.

Comfort

The key to surviving long flights is comfort. The most comfortable attires work for both embarking on an airplane in addition to staying healthy. Whereas you would like to put on shoes which you can easily slip in and out of whilst in the security line, the cold air in the cabin can make you quite uncomfortable during the flight. On the other hand, putting on restraining shoes can also make your flight quite uncomfortable. Make certain that you have included an extra pair of comfortable socks in your luggage so that you can slip into them during the flight. Your attires ought to be simple to wear for a prolonged period too. Try to avoid clothes with surplus zippers and buttons. The reason for this is because they will greatly hinder you from finding a comfy position.

Snacks

Initially you were allowed to carry snacks into the plane however since 9/11 rules have changed. Most airlines do not allow passengers to bring in food as they are served during the flight. For long flights, this can be overwhelming especially if you are the type that likes to snack in between. Therefore, before embarking on a long flight you are encouraged to eat.
