In the western hemisphere, Haiti has been the poorest country and the life of people was already a misery and earthquake just added to their problems. Over 300,000 have died due to this natural calamity and rest all survivors are facing the shortage of food, water, shelter, medical aid, electricity and many other humanitarian requirements. The majority of people who have suffered and are still suffering are the orphans. The shortage of food and shelter compelled various people to rob the orphanages and take over all the food supplies that were being provided for the orphans.

Different orphanages that were collapsed are still supporting many children, but everyday news is being flashed about orphanages being robbed for food and other supplies. This has really created a problem for the orphans, as the food supply is already very limited and people have started looting that stuff also. In order to control such circumstances, Joint Council on International Children’s Services has decided to provide food supplies that will be sufficient for one or two days only. This will also lower the cases of looting and children will be able to fulfill their hunger, as well.

Although different laws are being created for providing more support to the orphans, but still there are several orphanages which are still suffering from this difficulty. Some orphanages are still experiencing looting and other attacks and the safety measures are very low. The number of orphans has also increased after the earthquake struck the country and the current situation has worsened the situation for them. Facilities are running low and most of the orphanages have even reported deaths. Distributing the supplies in apt amount to most of the orphanages can help to stop children from dying due to starvation.
