Such a situation can also present a significant risk to your safety and security because of the darkness that accompanies it. It can become difficult to perform basic tasks like cooking and going to the bathroom and the absence of light can put you at risk of robberies if you are not careful enough. The following tips should be kept in mind in case of a power cut:

1) You should keep a kit in place that can help you deal with a power cut. This kit should consist of torches, food supplies and water and should be ideally kept in an accessible place that all family members are aware of. When there is a power cut, it can become quite difficult to locate such a kit that you may have put together because of complete darkness.

2) It is best not to use candles for lighting purposes as they can put houses greatly at risk of a fire especially if wood is the basic material of construction. It is better to stick to oil lamps or battery powered sources of light in order to ensure the safety of you and your family.

3) As soon as the electricity goes out, you should immediately switch off all the electrical appliances as they can be at risk of damage if there are any fluctuations in the electric current that may be likely in a power cut that has occurred due to a repair process. These fluctuations can also cause electric shocks for anyone who ventured too near them.

4) If you receive news of an impending power cut, it is wise to recharge all your phones so that the channels of communication remain open. In case there is a long power cut, it may not be possible to get in touch with the authorities if there is a need to do so. You should also stock up on food supplies if you have prior information about a power cut.

5) When there is a power cut, your alarm systems will also stop working. So, you should take other measures to keep your house safe. You should check all the doors and windows of the house and affirm that they are adequately locked. It can be very easy for a thief to sneak into your house without being observed when there is no light. It is also better to light up all the doorways by strategically placing battery powered torches.

6) The food supplies in your refrigerator can go stale and put your health at risk if you consume them. It is best to throw out all foodstuffs kept in your fridge after a period of eight hours. Packaged foods like chips and biscuits should be stocked up to meet your energy requirements.

The above mentioned guidelines can help you remain safe and secure in the event of a power cut and ensure that no mishaps take place.

In Santa Monica, California, two jewelers were about to leave a parking lot in their car when they were approached by three male suspects wearing ski masks and dark clothing. One of the suspects smashed the driver’s side window and threatened the jewelers with a knife. The other two suspects snatched a lap top and backpack containing a large quantity of jewelry merchandise. The suspects slashed the car’s tires, took the keys, and fled to a white, 1990 Nissan Maxima that was waiting for them. While, this crime was obviously premeditated, there are still things a jeweler can do to avoid a situation like this.

Parking lots are the most frequent site of crimes against traveling jewelry salespersons. That’s why the Jewelers’ Security Alliance has the following recommendations. To reduce risk: always visually observe your route to your vehicle or the place you will be visiting before going to or from your car; park as close to your destination as possible; enter and exit your vehicle as quickly as possible; do not wait without driving in your stationary vehicle before or after appointments; park facing out to reduce the likelihood of a car pulling up and blocking you in; and lock your line in your trunk rather than place it on the front or rear seat.

Every time you watch the local news, you find out about a new crime in your community – with all of the robberies, assaults, and home invasions going on in the world, it’s easy to feel afraid. These days, even a trip to the grocery store can be a little scary. But you don’t have to live in fear.

How do you protect yourself? You may not be capable of physically holding off an attacker, but maybe the idea of purchasing a handgun seems kind of extreme. A TASER may be the perfect choice for you and your peace of mind.

What is a TASER? How Does it Work?

A TASER is a handheld device that uses electricity to temporarily disable an attacker. Unlike a real gun, TASER is non-lethal and does not need to be reloaded. A TASER shoots electrical charges to stun and disorient an attacker, allowing you time to get away and get help.

The human body is a complex system of nerves and muscles, which are controlled by the brain. The brain sends messages through your nervous system, allowing you to move around, smell, taste, and so on. A Taser gun sends a high charge of electricity through the body, temporarily over stimulating the nervous system, causing confusion, loss of balance, muscle spasms, and weakness.

Sounds like science fiction, doesn’t it? In fact, the name “TASER” is an acronym for “Thomas A. Swift’s Electric Rifle.” The TASER, invented in 1969 by an Arizona man, is named after a popular teenaged inventor from a series of sci-fi novels.

Portable Protection

Maybe you want a large, imposing handgun-style TASER for your home, or a small, lightweight model to take jogging. No matter what size you want, there is a TASER for you.

• Three-inch TASERs: designed for men and women on the go. Discreet and slim, they will fit into a purse or pocket easily, but still pack enough power to bring down an attacker.

• Cell Phone TASERs: look exactly like some of the most popular cell phone models today. These low-key and powerful devices blend in easily, no matter where you are.

• Flashlight TASERs: the perfect companion for a late-night walk. A larger TASER is not just disguised as a flashlight; it really has a working halogen bulb. An attacker would be surprised, however, to receive a blast of electrical current from this innocent-looking device.

• Police-style TASERs: shaped like handguns and look powerful and intimidating. Perfect for keeping in the nightstand or closet for home defense.

It is estimated that about 7,300 law enforcement agencies and military installations worldwide use TASERs to help protect themselves and others. The safer alternative to a handgun will make you feel safe in your surroundings and could possibly save your life.
